HELP! Old Midwest Extra 300S / Now a buildthread
I lost contact with the person that was going to do a favour,so I have to turn to another owner of this Extra.
My dilemna is that I need a trace of the #7 rib, mine is missing and the plans fail to show any ribs.I would need the correct physical size scanned or photocopied and sent to me.Also the manual went missing over the last 12 years that I have been dragging this semi built kit around. If anyone could copy and sent me the pages via email,I would gladly toss a 25$ cheque in the mail for your troubles. If I move this thing off my workbench again,it will probably never be built []

RE: HELP! Old Midwest Extra 300S
I have the Extras 300xs. I think they are the same except for the airfoil tail feathers. I can scan the #7 rib cutout sheet if you feel comfortable using that? I think I still have it in the box.

Yes please
Would a photocopy keep the actual physical size? I think the scan will work too.I just wont know how to resize it if it changes.I think the 2 kits are the same except for tailfeathers.let me know if I can use some of your manual

Checked and I do stillhave them in the box. I'll have to sort them out to scan the right one. I'll try to get it later today. I can Scan to PDF if you have Adobe Acrobat reader. I need to Scan my manual anyway (backup copy), they seem to have legs. The manual will take a bit longer though.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Great!
I did a feeble attempt on scanning #6 and trying to enarge it.It did not fit on the scanner well, and my print out ended up giant scale [:@]I have real good intentions of finishing this thing. The last 5 years have been ARF's,this one I want to see through, and then get another 28% plane.Saving for a gas engine right now and servos.

RE: HELP! Old Midwest Extra 300S
Does anyone have a part number for this sheet containing the # 7 rib?
I may still be able to get some parts from the XS (Kit #189) model from Midwest.
Loosing interest in this thing by the day,no one came thru and my methods arent working...[]

Nice looking plane, Nitro. Hope you can finish it successfully. The Midwest is a great flying airplane, especially considering how long it has been around [sm=thumbs_up.gif].

RE: HELP! Old Midwest Extra 300S
I am gonna do my best.I plan on putting a 50 cc in it,along with as good of electronics that I can afford.I am going a bit overkill on the engine and radio, but all this gear is going to get swapped into a larger maybe 85-87 inch airframe after I have flown this Extra for awhile.Playing with the idea of bolting a Taurus 52 under the cowl.

RE: HELP! Old Midwest Extra 300S
I think I received most of the manual from Digger44
This means that along with Midwest stepping in and claiming that they are sending me some ribs from the XS kit, that this is officially on the building table ready for assembly again.I am pretty stoked, havent build and finished a kit in years.I think this is going to be fun
Thanks Digger44 and everyone else that has posted with info, help and enthusiasm.

RE: HELP! Old Midwest Extra 300S
nitro, several more files to come. I had to break them down pretty small. The mail server was choking with the larger files. I will send the remaining files over the next couple of days. I know you are having fun downloading all these files. If I miss any pages let me know.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Nitro, send let me know if you need anything else for this plane. I built one years ago. I am sure I have the manual and blue prints. BTW I lost mine on flight # 2 to AILE flutter. Be sure to fix this area. The plans call for the servo mount to only have support on two sides. It needs support on all four sides.

RE: HELP! Old Midwest Extra 300S
Digger44 sent me the manual and I have resumed building.I made a rib by taking average of two ribs and that is fairly close.
I will try and stay on this and keep an update

RE: HELP! Old Midwest Extra 300S
Things are going well.
The pages Digger 44 sent me were essential,as the plans from this kit are not as detailed as they could be,and I would have missed a few things. One wing panel is nearly done and in another week the other side should be ready to mate up with the first one.It is a one piece wing.

That portion was painless and easy. The ribs were also not all damaged (from moving several times) like the left side.Just a few steps and sanding, then I can join the panels and start final fitting of components.
No need to reply here, nice to keep a non cluttered built assembly thread

RE: HELP! Old Midwest Extra 300S
The wing panels are now joined, they fit well and true.
Mounting the wing on the fuse with 4 x 1/4x20 nylon wingbolts was a bit of guesswork, luck and skill.
I much prefer the wingtube bolt up design of todays machines.
Now for the stab and elevators..and some pics soon
