Default Funny tuning issue - Good Read!

After a few months of not touching my T-Maxx due to tuning issues and overheating I pulled it out and started messing with it again. A little background first. I stripped out the High side needle and had to replace the carburetor housing. After that I could never get it running right again well I could but then it over heated real bad. At one point when I had a friend running it around the yard and I stopped and checked the temp after it started running real slow it had spkied up to 394 degrees. Yes 394 degrees I trust my on board temp sensor. Yes I burned the glow plug but the engine was fine. It has a 2.5 TRX. Well I pulled it out and played with the tuning again and when I put it in revererse I noticed that the rear tire were spining but not the front. I checked the front axle and sure enough it was missing the metal spiked ball thing that connectes theaxle arm to the wheel. Low and behold that little metal piece was the reason for the overheating and poor performance since iot didn't have the extra torque it was bogging down the engine. Almost like it was trying to tow another truck. Since the fix the other day I stay under 240 degrees and I'm catching big air again.

Yes, good to see you're running again ...

However, my question is, how did you manage to lose the ball? Have you ever tried to remove one of those things by hand? It ain't easy to do it!

I also don't understand how that would have made your temp skyrocket. Based on what you're saying, it would have been your diff, not your engine, taking the brunt of that problem.

I still don't know myself how the ball came out since none of the plastic on either side was broken. I have however been doing some big jumps which yielded some hard lands. I am jumping about 40 - 50 feet now but hoping for more with a small spur but anyway. With the front two wheels not working it causes the rear to work more since the fronts arn't providng that extra help along causing the engine to bog down and since the trans setup isn't desinged for a two wheel push it causes the engine to need more fuel and air but the engine just can't handle it. Try poping the ball out of yours if you have a four wheel drive and you will see the same thing.

If I'm correct, you're talking about the ball that connects the drive axles between the tranny and the diff? I ran my TMaxx for a few days in "2-wheel mode", and didn't suffer any of the issues you described. Are you sure your rear diff and tranny are turning smoothly, and with minimal friction? It really sounds to me like you had a hang-up somewhere in your driveline.

Yeah, if by 'axle housing', you mean 'hub carrier', I could see that. Probably put pressure on the driveline for that wheel by twisting around.

You realize 50 foot is taller then a 4 story building? But yeah I added about 2 pounds of extra weight to the front of mine and temps skyrocketed... So I believe you found your issue there....but for the 50 foot jumps?...Id have to see that one....
