Comp Arf 260 or Carden 260
I have a question for all u Pros out there, I looking to get an Extra 260 40% by either Carden or Composite ARF, But I have not seen either one fly. Has any one seen both fly or flown both? Which do you think is the Best Bang for the Buck? The Delema I have is that I have some one to buld me Carden but will cost me much more than Comp ARF. Any Input would be appreciated.
Thanks

Jason,
How so?, Daltons are 2500 framed less covering, and how strong are they, Cardens can take a lickin.
I dont have time too frame any thing up.

I have had both.
The carden has less rudder to elevator coupling. the Carden can be built much lighter the the Comp Arf. You will have a long wait to have it flying.
The Comp Arf will have you flying much sooner. This airframe is very complete. No more monokote to iron. Landing gear delaminates very easy.
They both fly great.

Not an apples to apples comparison. The question should be do you want to build or not, this topic will get you a million different answers so buy the one you think you'll be happier with based on looks because you can win or loose a contest with either.

RE: Comp Arf 260 or Carden 260
Sure is hard to get a straight answer around here.
I have been dy'in to see the comp. fly some slow and low rollers and
harrier flight, if someone would attest to those assets, I will buy one
hands down over any 200 dollar box of balsa.
I have a Carden 40 % Edge, Flies great, but it is an over priced box of sticks
when it gets to the door.
I have a comp. Yak. It would not fly 3d for crap stock, so I fired up the foam cutter,
and built a set of wings ( from scratch ) and now it is rock solid.
That is why I don't have a comp 260 yet. I will say, the comp. airframe looks great still,
and, well, you have to baby balsa and covering, I hate it.
Dear Dennis ( Carden ) what is up with your prices ?

Sgolec,
I have an idea, why don't you buy a comp-arf fuse and a set of carden wings. BTW why do you think your wings fly better than the stock comp-arf wings ?

I havent flown the Carden, but Tacky Tony has and I trust his thoughts on both of them...On the other hand I have flown the crap out of my 260 and it flys sweet! You will Not be dissapointed with the C-Arf 260...It really comes down to time...who has the time to build anymore? I know there a select few that do have time to build Kits and those guys have my respect. But the reality is the C-Arf can win you just as many contests as any Kit built...
As far a Rolling Harriers, these 260s do them very well and of coarse very stable same as the 3 meter..

For people who complain about Carden prices must have not compared to other kits. I built another "well known" brand kit. The fiberglass was so bad I asked for another - after 3 months of waiting I had a custom cowl built so I could fly the damn thing $$. Go down to your LHS and try getting wood like comes in a Carden kit....yeah right. OK order it and tell me how much it cost and that's just the wood. That doesn't include the engineering (which is really what your paying for), foam (which is very good compared to other kits), etc...
If you think he's getting overpaid for what he does - surely someone can step in and put him out of business by making it better/cheaper? Be my guest. Until then I'll continue to buy them because simply put they are the best all around kit on the market today. Period.
EDIT - I have not built a Dalton Aviation plane yet so it's not a slam againt Tony - they may be as good or better than Cardens.

RE: Comp Arf 260 or Carden 260
Well, I got a lot to say, but I'll keep it short.
I own a construction company, have for 18 plus years.
I don't get a lot of free time to build stuff for myself, although,
I know folks that do.
So,,,, I hired a buddy to do it for me ( and his self ).
He built me a "carden " from scratch. Well, from a set of prints, and a $1200
box of "templates ".
It is done.
It is light.
It is straight as a carbon arrow.
And it was under 500 bucks worth of materials.
I don't have a canopy, or landing gear.
My other buddy made a cowl mould ( about 20 bucks a cowl for materials ).
I will be covering it this spring, and will post pictures when it is done.
I gaurantee, I will get a bunch of "bull" from folks, whatever.
I would never try and compete with Dennis, his planes are awsome, and god bless
anyone that can make a living in the airplane world. I wish I could.
I just want a great plane at a great price.
I will also try and get some video of my Yak with scratch built wings on this forum
this spring/summer. Try and do slow and low with the stock wing, or pull off a harrier
landing. Granite, I am not a known pilot, although I have spoke with many others that hated / sold
their 2.6 Yaks 'cause the 3D wasn't there.
