I took my Daughter to the Toys R Us today so she could spend some B-day $. I was looking at the American and Japanese GI Joe WII series that I tought would fit well into a 1/4 size warbird. Heavy, but with mods to the weight, I thought they go well with a WWII model. Looked good for the $. What are you using?

Mostly toy box stuff here too
Had a big bird but he fell out of an open cockpit, a little duck and a Juju Binks.
All pretty good test pilots. The planes are still flying.

WHAT PILOT AM I USEING
I've used everything from KEN Dolls all the way down to a William Brothers Sport Pilot. There are all kinds of pilots out there.Once I took a G.I. Joe that came with a leather jacket, I cut the rest of his body off with a Razer Knife, made ear phones out of plactic bubbles that round cold capcels come in and put him in am Extra 300. Got alot of compliments. When I sold the plane I think I made more on it then what I bought it for. Just use your imaginaion and anything is possible.

pilot figures
My favorite is Vince or Larry.....crash test dummies. They are kind of small, but hey....for my planes they seem to be the most appropriate pilots available . And I fly .40 size anyway so they are not too far off.
It is hard to find them now, but I got mine on ebay.

Pilots
I like the Ultimate Soldiers and G.I. Joes but they are not quite big enough for 1/4 scale. Work great with 1/5 and sometimes 1/6 though. You can buy them fairly inexpensive from Ebay if you don't like to get caught looking at dolls in ToysRUS.

Hey, you guys are going into a lot of troubles for your pilots and there is an easier way that maybe you dont know about.
Contact Diane at Pilots by Diane and get one any sizes you want and dressed any way you want also, that will fit and look good into your airplanes and they are turn key ready to be installed into the cockpits.

Pilots
(I'm looking for a couple of 1/5th full-body figures, by the way.)
I read an article years ago, by Bob Fiorenze on his pilots. He used GI Joes, but said that by the time he was done, they looked "like Swiss cheese". He used every method at his disposal to lighten them... Cut holes in them, etc..
This is a good thread. Personally, I do well at building "structures", such as planes, but not as well with "organic" stuff, like people. I wish there were more good sources of quality pilots in a variety of scales... something that doesn't take a ton of work to finish.

Pilot figures
Hi Mike,
I can send you a color brochure of Diane's pilot figures for free if you give me your address, by mail or e-mail in order for you to see what they look like.

I cut one of my son's old "posable" Power Rangers in half, and glued it to the cockpit of my Easy Sport 40. With the matched color (red) and the Power Ranger helmet, it takes on a jet pilot look ... My kids get a kick out of wacthing the Red Ranger take to the air !

I have no problem with pilot figures since I have a 4 yr old. The problem is when I sell a plane with the "pilot" in it...
Now she gets mad if she she sees me eyeing her toyroom
I have one of her old "betty spaghetti" heads that I used in a previous plane. It was in the only plane I have crashed beyond repair, so I think it would be bad luck to use her again. After all SHE was the one who flew the plane into the big overhead sprinkler after deadsticking and trying to fly under it...
