opinion metal or plastic spur?
can somebody from personal experience give their input on plastic or metal(aluminum) a spur gears? I hear conflicting stories from both sides, some say that a metal spur will just tear up the tranny! is it just a matter of choice or is one better than the other? I am looking for durability not so much performance, but I would rather chew up a $5 spur rather than something more expensive further downline , don'''t get me wrong I'm not chewing up plastic gears left and right , just need to know if metal is the way to go, Please help can't decide

RE: opinion metal or plastic spur?
i would say the plastic i have about 12 gallons on my plastic spur and nothing has ever happned to it. i set the mesh correctly and nothing should happen. and i always take out my motor every gallon to maintain the shoes. and i set the mesh and nothing has happened, i also heard that metal will mess somthing up. the metal spur is just a bandaid for a bad mesh

Well over 7 plus gallons and still running the same plastic spur. Really do not know how much fuel I have trough mine but I know at least 7 gallons but would not be surprised if I had 2 or 3 more on it. Being I have 4 nitro vehicles hard to keep up with how much fuel I have run through each one.

One more vote for the plastic spur gear. If nothing else, it is less rotating mass which will improve acceleration. With proper mesh, I've never had a problem

I switched to steel and have never looked back. You have to set the slipper slightly loser just in case you do something stupid like land with throttle on. I really like them, and I didn't notice any performance loss.
Since I had it for about 4 gallons, I have broken 2 metal gears in the tranny, worth about £7. The price of one spur gear.

RE: opinion metal or plastic spur?
I'm thining about switching over to a metal spur. I've never had any trouble with the plastic ones, but I have had one or two take a dive on the track before... and I want to get semi-serious with the racing this year. It's not that it's needed, I just want the extra piece of mind.
