Maule kit makers??
Yes, I too had an Ikon Maule kit once. Not for long. It was pretty crappy.
My solution was the 1/4 scale plans for the M5 from Model Aviation, the AMA magazine. Why not take a look at that route?

RE: Maule kit makers??
Powerplanes International (Wales, UK), a company now out of business, made a 40 size M-5 in the early 1990's. Saw it in Dublin Ireland hobby shop while on business in I searched for 10 years before finding one on eBay last year. It is just finished and will fly within the next few weeks.
It is a nice kit, sheeted foam wings, molded windscreen and side windows, and THIN plastic cowl. I made a plaster mold using this part and laid up a fiberglass cowl. Much better.
Weight with OS 56 alpha is 7.7 lbs., just as the box specified. Monokote wing and Coverite / Solartex fuse, latex painted with clear coat.
