Default Problems Problems and More Problems with T-maxx.

well this evening i went to my lhs and picked up a new spur gear 70T E-z Plug Wire and glow plug because all those things were wrecked. so after an hour of putting those things in(im a newb) and i made sure that the spur gear had a bit of wiggle and well It started right up and I then noticed that i lost my throttle linkages screw the screw that goes on the main black peice , well i found another scerw different but it works, well it wont shift to second and bogs or revs reallly high in first gear. I still see a trail of blue smoke and i started to twek with the High speed needle..and also my brakes dont seem to be working very well and ideas?

Lean it off sumore. If you have never adjusted the 2nd speed setting then that should be still factory and thats fine for the engine it comes with. It wont want to shift if the carb isnt tuned right.

There are tonnes of tuning videos here @RCU and on google vid and even u tube, check'em out.[8D]

before i put the 70T Spur gear in the High speed needle was perfect and would go into second gear and i leaned it a bit more and the blue smoke trail went away and it was bogging when i accelerated.

Hmm.. Is there any drag on the drivetrain like a bad bearing or debris stuck in/on the shafts or dragging brakes? I havnt tryed the 70t sper yet so I havent experienced how it would respond... For now make sure that it has at least a bit of visable smoke so you dont kill the engine and hopefully some one can come forward and tell us if the 70t sper can smogg your engine. The only time my maxx wont shift is from temperature changes and that require re-tuning, or I buggered with my 2nd speed shift adjuster screw too much.

Are you sure the carb is opening all the way when you go full throttle?

Well I did have a problem with the throttle linkages and then a lost a screw and replaced it with another screw (That wasnt meant for it) and it seems to work fine how do i tell if the carb is completely open? by looking down the whole where the air filter would be? beacause it seems to be open all the way.
So the problem still stands..Problem hitting second gear and brakes arent working very well at all!
I will return the HSN to stock settings and work from there and see if anything happens.
any comments welcome! please!

Recenter the servo. But check the gear first. With motor off check to make sure the linkage is still opening and closing the slide. Have you tuned the LSN yet?

Sounds like your servo is not set correctly or is hanging on something. You can disconnect the throttle rod and move the carb by hand to see what it should look like when at full throttle. Make sure the servo is working corrctly then I would start with the engine and get it tuned correctly. Make sure you are getting some smoke during acceleration. Then you can work on the 2nd gear problem but it may fix itself once the engine is tuned correctly. You said it was running great before. When was that? Has there been a change in weather conditions? If so, you would need to adjust the engine. Hope this helps. I had bad luck with the 2.5 engine so I bought a OS .18TM. My T-Maxx is fun to drive again .

change your shift point because you went to a 70 tooth spur it change your gear ratios meaning not only dose the motor spin the tires at a differant speed but it dose the same with the trans adjust the shift point about 2 turns (so that it will shift to second) then once you have it shifting adjust the shift point a 1/4 turn at a time until it is close (be sure to bring the motor up to temperature before adjusting)
once you have it close you can leve it there or start adjusting 1/8 turn at a time but remember that if you make it so that it jusat barely shifts under perfect conditions then it will not under less than perfect conditions
