Talon from century Jet
Hello all
I wanted to share some pictures on the Talon from century Jet.
I was looking to get into jets and did not want a Roo nor a Bcat.
I found the Talon and i liked it. I was also looking for a trainer jet that is designed to fly off of grass. I purchased the complete kit from Bruce. I also got a lot of help from him since I knew little about composites and jets.
Fully bypassed P120 will power it, Futaba will guide it. I wanted to see if other modelers are building this kit to share some info.
It has 3 separate air systems, retracts, doors, and brakes.

Century Jet provide the kit in different packaging from basic to complete. The video shows the plane flies extremely well, fully aerobatic and very docile to land.
I would suggest buying their retracts as well because they manufacture them, they are very solid and, are reasonably priced compared to other retracts supplied on the market.
The nice thing is standard fuel tanks can be used from Dubro and they sit right on the CG, which means you do not have to spend $200 on fuel cells to make things fit.
Pictures will follow after I reduce their sizes.
Have a nice weekend

Good job on the Talon!!! Mine just slightly further along, with fuel tanks all plumbed and servo wiring to do final sanitizing. I am applying color in between the control surface before I finish installing the control surfaces. Mine will be powered with my AMT Mercury. Did you make your own heat shield for underneath in the tunnel? It does'nt look like the ones I make for CJM for the Talon. Mine will be painted in Blue Angels #3 colors as mine was the third prototype off the mold.

Roger,
Re. Heat shield, I got mine with the kit. It was slightly larger than the area it sits in, so I bent it around instead of trimming it, screwed it in place for now until after painting where it will be permanently installed.
Blue angels will look good. I think I am going yellow as the main colour and blue trims, I guess they will complement one another.
If you have any picture I sure would be interested to see.
Also, what weight are you anticipating?
Thanks
Peter

heat shield
The heat shield was designed the way yours came, because the the second prototype which had a simjet turbine in it scorched the paint a bit in a cross wind while taxing out. So Bruce asked me to extend it down past tunnel a bit to help with the heat rollout using a larger turbine. the 1st proto which also had a Mercury in it, no problem with rollout with the merc, but that larger simjet had a different flame pattern . Let me know if ya get any rollout with P-120

Thanks for the info Roger, I thought I was installing it incorrectly. I have the shield installed to the best I can I think, however I bent the lips on the left and right so they wrap slighly onto the fuse sides. I hope this is correct, or was I supposed to have kept it protruding down? If so I think I should bend it back i guess.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Pease review pic on page 1 of the thread, or I can email a closeup pic.
Thanks
Peter

Peter,
the extra was intended to be left protruding beyond the lower edge of the tunnel, as an extended tunnel and also past the aft end of the tunnel as well just in case the flame tried to rollout a bit in a cross wind taxiing situation. I made three different size shields before settling on the final one. I painted the tunnel on mine with BVM "heat shield" paint then stuck the double wall shield in with some beads of RTV silicone and ran four screws threw the shield into the tunnel and into some wooden blocks I epoxied internally in tunnel area. I couldn't say for sure if you might have a rollout problem or not as it only occured in Keith's
Talon with the simjet 1700?? and only on that cross wind day while taxiing. but why risk scorching a nice paintjob. If want a new shield I will let you have it for what I sell them to CJM for.
contact me off list.
