Supplier Labels Stuck On Balsa
Oh, this really gets me...go to the hobby shop, pick through all the stock looking for that one plank of unwarped balsa or plywood. You get home and try to peel the SIG label off and it is stuck too well to peel off. Anyone know how to get'em off the pricey wood without sanding? If it were anything but four inches from the end I would just cut the end off.
Lately it's been the hobby shop price sticker on propellers. Out comes the laquer thinner, the acetone and sometimes the dishwasher just to get the dang thang off. Do shops really know what we go through?

Try peeling back a corner of the label and then apply lighter fluid to the peeled back area. Continue peeling back as the fluid starts to penetrate. I think you'll be successful with this method.

You can use something like "Goo Gone" which is a citrus based cleaner to get labels off... works good on props and balsa....
But you're right... I hate 'em too!

I have used a common steam iron to remove such items. It also sets up the wood to curl if need be.
Use it on the "Genuine SIG Balsa" ink labels, it blurrs them so there is not a sharp reflection in the finnish afterwards too. It will not remove the ink, but disperses it.

I usually cut from the other end and leave the sticker on this way i know what size the wood is and a little heat will take it off once its off just rub with a little acetone and its fine .

I use a heat gun. No need for solvents. Just use your monokote type heat gun, or just a hair dryer would do.
Use you fingernail to lift one end a bit, then heat. The glue will soften and it'll peal cleanly.
Fact is, I use the same for most any kind of label that's stuck onto anything I buy, regardless of whether or not it's hobby related.
Werks fer me!
