Adding Lighted Coaxial MG: Pershing
Greetings all,
I would like to add an additional LED to my Pershing's gun mantlet in the coaxial machine gun position.
To do this I am considering just wiring it in parallel to the existing hull MG so they will fire in unison. Do I need a current limiting resistor for the additional LED?
Comments, ideas, assistance welcomed.
Would be interesting if I could add a switch that would toggle between the hull and coaxial MG's. I can imagine the purpose for such would be a scenario where targets were near (activating the hull MG) or far (necessitating the coaxial since it's in alignment w/ main gun).
Thanks,
-Harq

Ive seen guys wire them straight and I've seen resistors used. Check out LSDides and ask them. that's where I've been buying my LEDs from. Bought some white ones to make all the ones on the Walker Bulldog funcational, bougth some orange ones for the commander cigar and machine guns and blue for the convoy light for the Tiger.

Thank you very much, swathdiver! That's a great source you've found there and thanks for the heads-up.
I think I will use their 3mm amber as its color shade is very close to orange but has the right amount of yellow to simulate gunfire. Have you ever used surface mount LEDs? I think I found a trio of them (red, yellow, blue) in a child's light up bracelet given as a restaurant toy favor. The diodes are amazingly small, about the size of a grain of salt. [X(]

No, I saw them on their site, way small. Don't really know what I'd use them on the tanks for. I ordered the orange ones for my guns and just placed an order for the blue rectangular ones for the convoy light for the Tiger. I figure it'll take two of them.

Hi Harq...........I know what you mean........I am going to do the same on my Panther
but have a simple microswitch wired into the Mg in the mantlet that will only operate when the gun elevation or turret is in certain positions (not decided yet).......
Cheers

That's exactly what I want to do; have a switch mounted in the turret that activates the coaxial MG when the barrel is level.
I haven't figured out how to rig it up based on adding it to the stock/current configuration. I believe I will need either a SPDT or DPDT microswitch... I would be interested in finding out what you decide.

No problem Harq.......I will post a pickie when I get to that stage.........My approach was to simply parallel wire from pins 1 & 4 off of the connector from the board to the added Mg and to put the switch in one of the new Mg wires to switch on when the main gun is level or the turret is facing forward or a number of combinations..........
cheers for now
