Charge/discharge rates?
I have several different Mah rated battery packs and I just picked up a charger with charge and discharge capabilities. How do I know what rate to use? I have always charged at 4amps with my simple Prophet Plus.

RE: Charge/discharge rates?
I don't know about discharge rates as my charger does it automatically for me.
As for charge rates, The best rates are usually between .5C and 1C where C is the mah rating of the pack.

RE: Charge/discharge rates?
Many people claim on race packs that you should discharge them at the same rate they discharge on the vehicle, or at about 20 amps or so. My charger only discharges up to 10 amps, but I have built a light bulb discharger that discharges at 25 amps.
This is of course about 8-9C.
Charging at 4 amps would be about right for most 3000mah pack. Higher than 1.5C will greatly shorten the life cycle of the battery, but it really does zip on the track!

RE: Charge/discharge rates?
here's what i do...
run the car until the pack noticibly fades.
if i have a few days before i need the pack again, i'll discharge @ 35 amps down to O.8V (pulse discharge)
if i need the pack pronto, i'll discharge @ 20amps down to 0.3V
then i slap em on my equalizer until the bulbs go out or for a few hours depending on how much time i have.
i run IB4200 matched packs.
