Finishing TF P-47 fuselage, how to sand.....
Just looking for a little help here. I have a Top Flite P-47 that I am finishing up. It is glassed with .75 cloth and minwax polycrylic. The sheeting was not perfectly flat...this is my first real build, so I've lived and learned with it. I've had to ad some filler in some 'large' places on the fuse and just curious as how to sand it and kind of tool to use? I had to do the wing and it was a little easier....I used an automotive sandpaper holder tool and just used long front to back strokes with the tool sideways. Worked well. Any and all input would be very helpful.
Thank you,
John

try using some very firm foam rubber as a "sanding block". I will conform to the curve(s) of the fuselage, yet still keep everything relatively flat. I attach the paper with 3M #77 adhesive. Your best bet for the rubber will be a crafts store or upholsery place.

Thanks, I might try that....Someone else told me to use long strips of sandpaper and use the shoe shine method. Might try that as well.

The shoe shine method is good on the forward decking and underneath. If you built the bubble canopy, it will also work well on the turtledeck, but make sure you keep moving the sandpaper or you'll wear a groove mighty fast... Best to go at a diagonal wherever possible. If you built the razor-back, go with a sponge of foam as suggested by campy
