Default Advice

Hey guys, I am interested in this hobby and I am not sure what to look for in buying an RC. I know I want a buggy type or truck so I can run both on and off road. I don't think I will be entering any contest or competitions but would like to try it eventually. Thats why I don't really want an entry level vehicle but also don't want to break the bank. I'm budgeting around 3 or 400 for this and have been looking at models like Traxxas, HPI or Kyosho. Any suggestions? Most of the buggys I found were also 2 wd. Should I be considering 4 wd arent' they easier to control?

Your input would be greatly appreciated as I am a total newb to this.

Thanks

hi i would recommend an Xray product, the quality is top notch, and the budget you mentioned will allow you to get an Xray.

if you like nitro i would recommend a 4 wheel drive Xray NT18MT RTR, it comes ready to run and its on sale for $269 at; http://www.superfastrc.com/xray-nt18t--nt.html and it even includes a free starter box.

if you like electric i would recommend an Xray M18MT w/power pack its got everything except a radio, its $218 at; http://www.superfastrc.com/xray-m18t--m.html just add a nice FM radio like a good futaba or the jr 3xi pro for another $160 and you have one truly 1st class race winner, or one really really fun high performance all terrain truck.

good luck, most of all HAVE SOME SERIOUS FUN! lol

I would suggest this , you can bash it during the week and take it to the track and be competitve on weekends. [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFAB6&P=ML]rc10T4[/link] with an ESC like this [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRE96&P=7]LRP [/link] and an FM radio like this [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNHS2**&P=7]Futaba[/link] . A stock motor like the [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLXT7&P=ML]Co27[/link] (it's more geared for racing, but fine for bashing) will get you going with somewhere around an [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXS409&P=7]18 tooth pinon[/link]. The total would be 359.25, and then you have to decide how nice of a charger you want and what quality of 6 cell battery packs you'd like. But the items listed above will be a great way to get into the hobby and you will almost always be able to find replacement parts for a kit like that at local hobby shops. The cool thing about tower is they usually have like a $30.00 off coupon available for when you spend over $200 or some kind of deal going on so keep an eye out. Good luck.

I'm partial to Losi stuff, even the older stuff is fun and well made in my opinion.

Does anyone know if an original RC 10 body will fit a JRX2? I have a JRX2 with no body and the chassis shape is so different than the newer models I was thinking that body may work but wasn't sure. Any advice is appreciated- THanks

I got into the sport by buying used first. I went to a local hobby shop and got a running Kyosho for $35. I had to learn a lot in short amount of time since I had to put in a radio, throttle linkage and then figure out how to tune it. My biggest suggestion is buy something that is supported locally. In my area there are no Kyosho dealers so I have to look on line for parts. These sites are not very "newbie" minded in their part descriptions and model names like MP7.5, MP7.5 Sports or MP7.5 Sports II can get confusing when ordering parts you can't touch and compare. If I had a car that my dealer sold and stocked parts for, I could take the car in and say "I need one of these". Instead I have to first figure out what the part is called and try to find it on line -- then wait for delivery. My local shop owner is very friendly and helpful. He has offered to order parts for me through his store to avoid the shipping cost -- but I still have to wait.

Political rant: Buying local better supports the sport in your area - it isn't always about price.

No, its not out for a first timer. just realize that it is FAST. and that means it can break pretty spectacularly.
