Default Zen 260 vs 230/231 newbie question

I was just wondering if anybody can tell whether the Zen is a 260 or a 230/231 by just looking at it. Or is there a better way to tell the difference. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

The 230/231 is noticeably smaller. If you’ve never seen either motor before, and there is no sticker on the bottom of the case telling you the numbers, you can measure the top of the square cooling fin. The 260 is 2.5 inches wide. The other will be about 2 ¼ wide.

Actually the castings for the 231 and 260 cylinders are the same. The 260 is just bored bigger inside. If you look at the top cooling fin on the output side of the engine the 231 has one small hole in it . The original 260 had no hole there and the newer 260's have 2 holes there. The holes were just put there for identification purposes as far as I know. The 230 is an older engine and Lifes a Drag is right about that one, it is about 2 1/4 inches accross the cooling fin and it is a totally different cylinder than the 231 and 260. Doug

My 230/231s both have labels on the underside saying what they are. One of them is no longer exactly 230/231s, but that's what it started life as.

A 230 is a 2 port engine, a 231 is a 4 port. They both use the same crank, coils, flywheel and pull start. 260 and 231 are the same except piston, cylinder, ring and piston pin. Cases on 260 and 231 are interchangeable.

The 230 is an older engine and isn't even close to the 231 or 260 in power. In stock form the 260 has a little more torque thn the 231 but the 231 has a little more rpm than the 260. I like the 231 if using a stock engine. If you're going for a modified engine the 260 is generally better. JMHO. Doug
