QQ 120" YAK--price announced...
Just checked their website--$2300. The only other benchmark I have is SD-model 37.5% YAK for $1350 from TBM. Now, I know QQ has wingbags (say, $100 value), carbon wing / stab tubes and landing gear (let's say, another net of $250 OVER aluminum?), and perhaps some other additional hardware (let's throw another $100 in there). Adding that to SD-Model price, I get $1800, $500 below QQ's YAK.
I must be missing something. QQ has terrific reputation for quality but SD-Model does appear to be makign excellent planes as well. Why such a gap in price? Is it because QQ's YAK is a replica of his actual competition plane? Just curious.

i am sure it will be worth every penny. i had read on the flying cirkus about SD service not being very good and we don't know who will be selling them next month. i know the SD models are cheaper but you get what you pay for if most things in life. QQ's planes are the best out there and the service is also the best you could ask for. i have owned both brands and i vote QQ aircraft all the way. now i just have to save a little $$ for the new 38% QQ yak. i have had the elect yak, the 72", the 73", and 2 102's and loved them all.

The service from QQ and his staff is second to none...I tried to buy a 40% Yak from SD Models in Dec....Took 5 days to get an answer on a shipping quote....Needless to say by the time they got back to me ( through frustration )I had bought a Comp-Arf and glad I did...My next one will be a QQ...I'd bet the quality of a QQ arf is the best out there.

"andy86na
that sure sounds high to me "
it doesn't sound cheap to me but the best usually cost a little more. i have not flow this plane yet but i am willing to bet 2300.00 (by buying one) that it will be one of the best planes if not the best in it's class. just as the 73" and the 102" are. i would also love to have a Dalton and a Carden but they cost a lot more if you have it built by a good builder. there a a lot of very good planes out there to pick from in all sizes and price ranges so just pick the size you can feel good about flying and the price range you can afford to crash and have fun. thats what this hobby is all about to me anyway.

Thaks for the replies--helpful to see other's reactions. I'm sure QQ's company did their homework in setting the price althought it appears on the high side. Would be great to see a build thread on this thing when it comes out--it may be worht the money!

RE: QQ 120" YAK--price announced...
Pricing is an odd and subjective thing.
Corvette: Approx $55000
Ferrari: Approx $500000
They are both just basic modes of transportation yet one costs 10X the other. Is the Ferrari worth it? By pure performance standards it isn't. It propably isn't even faster or handles better than a Corvette. It certainly is better than a Corvetter with $450000 worth of modifications. It just dosen't make any sense. Yet there is a waiting list to buy the Ferrari.
Go figure.
I still stand by comments I've made in the past. ARFs are a good buy. They are way better than I could build myself and I love the completeness of the kit. I will continue to fly them.
It's always interesting to me to see people complain about ARF quality...then when quality kits are produced, people complain about the price.
My suggestion is...look at the plane...if you like it buy it. If you don't, move on to something you do like.
Thanks
Barry

It's way overpriced, but with the Q'sters name on it, the lemmings will buy it.
Save your money, for that price you could buy one hell of a used Carden.

If you want the best.....it costs money. It is expensive, but I don't think anyone disputes the quality. I'm in, whose coming with me?

Sometimes when a person spends a lot of money they will let their pride get in the way of the product. Meaning if you go out and buy that 2300 ARF and your buddy buys a Radiowave ARF for 1500 and u fly both even if the 1500 does fly better the 1500 plane will get picked apart by the 2300 buyer. Example buy any two planes with one of them being the QQ and cover them in the same QQ scheme and then see which one wins your test in the air. The take off the blindfold to see which one won. Some folks spend more money on things like a high dollar item so that everyone doesn't have what they have, like women with their clothes, u feel me?

It's priced that high simply to see if people will pay it. If they don't sell at anticipated volumes the price will fall. If people are willing to pay the price it will stay high. The primary reason the initinal offering price is so high is because he can. No more, no less.
QQ does all that great flying, the plane does nothing without the pilot.

I'll buy what *I* want...if you think its too expensive, thats not my problem. As far as Quique flying the plane and the plane not having anything to do with it. Sure. However, most companies have a top pilot showcase their plane. Kyle flying the Wildhare Sukhoi vids were great..but again, he's a great pilot. The plane is doing nothing without him - right?

Has anyone considered that maybe that includes shipping? If it doesn't, then I would just assume buy a Compy 260.
Quique does have a winning design on his hands and it is one of the sweetest-looking Yak-type planes out there, but if the quality isn't drastically improved on (not that the current quality isn't satisfactory - but has room for improvement - and, yes, customer support is in the top 1%), I don't see it being worth $2300 unless it DOES include shipping.
But, like someone has already said, we don't have enough information to pick apart that price just yet...
I do see some valid points already, though, even T.bob made a good point! It really doesn't matter much to me, though - it's out of my price range anyway, even if it is worth it.

The ARF competition is a Radiowave 300 Mid wing with the carbon package @ $1,675.00
and the Wild Hare 300 Pro series @ $1,550.
They mention an All wood/ no foam construction.
With a plane that size and coming in at 42 lbs + is that a good thing?

This has nothing to do with QQ or how good a pilot he is, or how good there CS is. I would never spend $2300 on an airframe built out of wood, foam and covered with ultracoat. Spend the extra money and buy a Composite-Arf, will last many years over. Just because it's got his name on it, doesn't mean you will be a better pilot.

You still got that 3.3 YAK? That was what 3 years ago? I'll bet a 3.3 YAK after 3 years sitting in the garage will look like new compared to a 3 year old ARF built in China.
And yes a professionally built Carden would be the only 40% airframe I would consider.
