How do I get the oil out of balsa so I can make covering stick!!!

Use K2R spot remover if you can find it, baking soda or baby powder if you can't. There are other ways but at the moment I'm drawing a blank beyond those mentioned.

Kitty litter is amazing. Just cover what is soaked and let it sit overnight.

Pastorjody: Go to the local hardware or a store that sells floor, laundry, household soap products and get K2r spot cleaner in an aerosol can . Cost about $3.65. Spray it on the balsa or any thing you want to de-oil. Let stand till it turns to white powder. brush it off and do it again if the oil is still visible . Bob.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am gonna try em all. They all sound better than latex paint which is my solution. (No solution at all)!

Corn starch mixed with alcohol to a thin past spread over the affected area works wonders and is cheap. Works like K2 R and much less expensive. Spread on, let dry and scrape or sand off, repeat several times if necessary. If it,s a flat balsa panel and can be replaced, sometimes thats the best and least expensive method.

I use Denatured alcohol and soak the area a few times and let dry for a couple of days. Then apply two coats of Basarite and the covering will stick lick it never had fuel on it.

put a good amount of acetone on the area then take a heat gun to thr area and the oil will come to the surface be sure
to wipe it off before it settles back in the wood.

I was told to spray the affected area with starter fluid and let it dry a day or so.

i'm not sure but i think starter fluid has a certain amount of oil in it
but the idea is to bring the oil to the surface then wipe it off. if you let it set it will go back down in the wood.

K2R works the best but the powder left over can be a pain to remove from all small areas....I like to use Sig Stix-it when finished to get the monokote to iron down again.

Tip I was given on the weekend was to use a hot iron and iron tissue paper( kitchen towel) against the wood.

In really bad cases I use a heat gun and paper towel. The heat brings the oil to the surface, then just keep wiping it with a clean section of paper towel. That will get you to a point that you can use the K2R.
