I finally got the new plane finished to replace the one
that had it's life cut short last year due to a bad switch.
With only about a dozen flights, the old one went straight
in...with total loss of control. ( I hate that )

I did make a couple changes on this one....mainly the
addition of dual aileron servos. I can play around with
flaperons, and some aileron differential, and some
mixes.

I did spend some extra time in the radio department. I
went with two batteries, and two switches (Cermark) in
hopes of eliminating the "Death Spiral Syndrome".
The swithes have thin rubber pads under them.

After I got the radio gear "all rubbered up", I made some
HD hold-down plates....don't want that stuff shakin'
loose on this one....

I ran the engines for about a half hour, and got them
running perfectly, with great transition. These are the
same two Magnum .40's that were in the old plane. I
broke both the mufflers off in the previous crash, but
the engines were OK.

Lookin' real sharp....and ready to go....well, almost.
I cross threaded one of the wing bolts putting it on.
I should have known better than to use those cheap'
skinny metal wing bolts the kit came with. O well,
theres always next week....

Smart ideas. I put TT.36's in mine. Unlimited vertical. After a season of use I noticed the firewalls were starting to loosen up. Since the covering was literally coming off the plane in flight I recovered it with solartex. During that process I found stress cracks at the wing center section. Very Bad! I shot some CA in the cracks then glassed the center section top and bottom out to the nacells. Did the dual aileron servos also and increased the aileron size to 1 1/2" instead of 1". Then replaced all the plastic with hollowed out balsa block. The plane survived an engine out at low altitude and the other sagged too much to keep flying so it pancaked in pretty hard. The only damage was the wing hold down block at the trailing edge. Easy repair, installed nylon bolts threaded into the wood. No problems. Gotta put new engines in now. The TTs wont stay synced up anymore. I really like this plane. A great twin trainer.

Do you happen to have tha nacelles off the old one? I've been toying with the idea of making mine a "Quadstar".

Edwin....I spent about 3 hours slingin' CA and epoxy in
the nacelles, and the fuse....tight as a drum now. I
glassed the center section of the wing, and used a real
thin glass cloth on the nacelles, and the nosecone. Put
some extra plywood under all the servo mounts, and did
the super balance to the props, spinners, and backplates.
Pretty much....every trick in the book. Yes they do fly
sweet....I hope this one lasts longer than the other one.

Chuck Auger....(heh heh heh) don't knock that old ugly
man holdin' that plane....he's been proudly wasting
balsa wood for a long time....

Sawyer692....sorry Bud, those nacelles went to the big
parts bin in the dirt a long time ago....

MinnFlyer....don't mess with my "lucky flyin' hat".

Hopefully, I'll have a successful Maiden flight report
real soon. ..check out this sunrise on Sunday morning.

Now thats a nice relaxing picture. And truer words have never been said. It sometimes takes these college kids 5 to 10 yrs to figure out what works and what dont. But sometimes, you get a new perspective on the "thats the way we always did it" story.

Default Mugs and Beards

Dave:

Since you were willing to risk destruction of all cameras attached to the web, and seemingly got away with it, I suppose I should show you that you aren't the champion of face fuzz you think you are. Neither is Beardking.

For years I shaved to satisfy the USAF, bosses, women, and convention. When I retired I decided a razor would never again touch my face.

If you think I look pretty bad, I guarantee the camera would not survive without the fuzz to give it some protection.

For beauty I'll not take a prize,
There are others more beautiful far,
. My face, I don't mind it
. For I am behind it.
The people in front get the jar.

Bill.

PS: Twinstar (Bleaah!) looks good. wr.

I, sir, have not gone bald. When I was attaining my full growth I grew so rapidly that my hair could not keep up, my head poked out the top and the hair dropped down through my chin. The hair should work its way back into place before too long. Haw.

I'm not bald either....mines worn off from making too
many U-turns underneith the covers. If I would stop
doing that....it would grow out in no time.....

David:

I must admit the headboard of my bed has a high polish. Wonder if that might have any bearing on our off-subject discussion?

For the lustrous, shiny,
. clean look of chrome,
Remember Bowling Alley wax,
. Is best for your dome.

Dave:

I thought we were talking about two nuts (You and me) and here you're talking about your plane again. Don't know what to think about you. Haw.

Purple and orange? You didn't hear about my order for the $200 Duellist ARF that was to be purple on top with orange polka dots? And orange underneath with purple polka dots?

Whether or not you're fuzzy with hair,
. Without two engines the fun's not there

Default Not only bald...

But color blind as well!!

That is actually 2 different colors of purple, but the "orange" is gold, Pearl Yellow to be precise. Trying to match my "orange" anodized spinners/pipes.
