Unless you're close enough to hear the alarm, it might go unnoticed. People ignore flashing lights and beeping horns of car alarms in parking lots all the time. I believe deterrant is better. Get GOOD locks, perhaps shrouded hasp types, and use them. Anything that takes time or makes noise to get through is a good theft preventative.

No alarms. How about a night vision motion sensitive camera? Or booby traps?

Or booby traps?
They make traps for those things???

But seriously, it would help if you gave us a scenario of exactly what you're afraid of.

I.E. Are you afraid someone will break into your trailer in your driveway while you're asleep? Or while you're out of town? Or in a parking lot while you're in the store? Etc.

A friend of mine found a decent, very cheap theft deterrent for his Harley. Although not an alarm, it worked wonders....

the secret...

well worn, empty, gun belt and holster wrapped around the back of the seat...

Actually, just keep the dog tied up to it. Just be sure to untie him when you go flying!

Theft-preventive signs for trailers:

This trailer protected by two men: Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson.

You can outrun me, but can you outrun my 9mm?

Trailer shell is electrified.

I sleep in the trailer 3 nights out of 7 with a shotgun. Can you pick which nights?

Free newspaper eulogies for trespassers.

If you're needy enough to steal, I'll donate 158 grains of lead to your cause.

On a serious note, booby traps may get the idiot that is breaking in, but the way laws are written, you may end up paying him and/or going to the slammer....[] Don't forget how easy it is to hookup and haul off that trailer also.... Motion sensative switch to activate battery powered strobe lights on top of trailer to bring attention. No body wants an audience when they are ripping someone else off.....

I intend to leave my trailer loaded with my gear parked at my home-I live in a subdivision with one acre lots, I am going to do the normal things (ie trailer lock, chain thru tandem wheels and nice locks) but was thinking about a alarm-thanks jmc

Seriously, a noise/light alarm will work well. Thieves don't like either. Be sure it's loud/bright enough to disturb the neighbors. I'll repeat, good strong locks. Thieves don't like anything that takes time or effort, either.

They make wireless door contacts that will report back to an alarm panel in your home, which can be progammed to call the police or any other phone number that you might want it to call. The panel can also be set up to activate a siren that will scare the pee out of any would be crook. These kind of systems are in use with some of the school districts that I work with for their service trucks. Good Luck, Dave

If you are serious enough for an alarm make it very LOUD!! I work in the ag sector and out chemical shed is alarmed, one night i locked up the office armed the alarm and went to leave. It was then that i remembered that i needed to deliver some chemical to a farmer so i went to the chem shed and unlocked the door and opened it. WWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW WWWOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scared the living hell out of me and was loud enough to make my teeth ache.

It runs off a 12 volt battery in case of emergency and man the only thing that thief will be worried about is finding a place to clean the crap out of his pants!!!! Having a couple of bright lights wouldn't hurt either.

Bottom line…Use good locks on the doors, lock up the tongue, and park it next to a motion sensor light. All these are good deterrent. If someone really wants in, they are going to get in!!!!![] Insure the trailer and contents!!

Dig a hole and sink some concrete with an eye you can chain the axle to.

Or I can GIVE you my dog, my girlfriend's horse is MUCH easier to clean up after.
