i have a chance to get a byron f-16. these were designed for ducted fan glow and the gear is non scal spring air with no gear doors. wings have ail but no flp. What is this worth, its very nice done up in thunderbird colors and never flown . i would loke to put a turbine, jet cat p-80 and sierra scale gear. what should i offer the guy for the airframe and can this be done. Im a warbird pilot and this would be my first turbine. i know she would be fast but i can throttle back. my educ back is a major in bio chem physics and math.

Don't bother. .....
The polyester airframe is not up to the stresses involved, and by time you reinforce it, you have a heavy pig. There are plenty of choices of brand new Thunderbird F-16's on the market the same size, designed and stressed for turbine use -- Tamjets, JetLegends, and Skymaster come to mind....

i agree with wayne22 100%. byron airframes were not built for the stress of a turbine. with a byron fan they fly great. they were highly recomended for jet trainers back in the day. i still fly mine with a fan. i would never try to fly it with a turbine...

Breyman2000,
Check out Cermark's 1/8 (semi) scale F-16..$1378 with almost everything included (pipe, retracts, brakes, air-lines etc) you can't beat it. Plus the thing flys like it cost $5000!
It's not all composite like the Tam's F -16 (it has monocote flying surfaces but the fuselage is fiberglass) but for a trainer it rocks!
I love 'em. It lands S-L-O-O-O-O-O-W.
I'm thinking about getting a back-up one. Mine weighs in at 15 1/2 lbs dry with a Super Bee and it flys awesome! I have almost 60 flights on it and I have guys at my field rushing to get one too!
Hope this helps.
Andre.

I could be wrong on the price...the $695 is for the fuselage only. Call/e-mail them they'll get you the right price. I know it wasn't more than $1500 though.
As far as a good turbine, any 13-18lb turbine will be fine (P-60, Super Bee, Wren 54 etc). Mine moves pretty good with the Super Bee which is only 14lbs of thrust. You don't want to overstress the airframe though because it's built light so go don't put anything bigger than 17lb of thrust in it.
I did have to beef up the area directly behind the hatch because it can get a little soft from the turbine and allow the tail fin to twist slightly (it's not as bad as it sounds) at high speeds.
I really love this airplane!

Take a look at Tams as well. little more expensive, but a lot more refined version. I have the original wood wing version and it flies fantastic!! I posted a video of it on the Smoke thread, if you are interested is seeing how it flies....
