Default Running temp help please

Hi All

Have a Savage XSS for a few months now
Have been enjoying myself with it rather much.
It is running fantastic.

Following the rather good advise from people in here to tune it.
Have tune it so I get a good smoke coming out on acceleration.
And little smoke when idle.
Using 10% nitro 14% Castor mix.

Then have the bright ideal of getting myself a temp gun.
Well that got me worried as I am getting some 310F without body on and some 350F with body on while bashing.
Getting 53F off the garage door at the moment
That probably been running like that since I got that truck I would guess.
I should not have got that temp gun as now it starts to worry me that I am wrecking the motor at that temp

People here says to tune to engine rather than temperature.
Should I be worried ?

Thanks.

I would run at least 20% nitro. The highter nitro will help bring the temps down plus give you more power. Hard to tell about engine life, you might of cut it short or maybe not. Just retune and get the temps down and enjoy till she gone.

Yes be very worried of course its probably to late anyways. You do not want your temp to exceed 285 and thats a racing temp. Average temp is between 230 and 260 and will always change day to day as the weather always changes. Also hpi recommends fuel of no less than 20% so your fuel can be causing a lot of issues. I say start at factory settings and re-tune it. The needle settings for the 4.6 is flush with the groove on the high speed needle and the low side is to be flush with the throttle arm then tune from there.

Get rid of the 10% nitro and run at least 20% with no more than 12% oil content. Big blocks are designed to run on 20-30%. You are not even seeing 3/4 of your engine's power potential with a measy 10% nitro and all that oil. When you swap fuels, put the HSN and LSN back to factory and retune. You'll be amazed at how much your truck wakes up.[8D]

Thank all for replies
Unfortunately nitro is not exactly cheap down here.
Oh well as I3asher says go for it until the engine dies, and good as any excuse to get one of them Axial that everybody is talking about :-)
