Default Cleaning color smears after monokote covering

Recently the monokote I was using was bad about leaving color smears over the other covering. Alcohol and lighter fluid wouldn't clean it. Acetone might have worked but I put a little Monokote trim solvent on a paper towel and it took it right off.

I use acetone and it works pretty good to take them off.

Toluol / toluene on a paper towel wipes it right off.

Yep, unless you belived more in:

"You'd better get Wild Root Cream Oil Charlie,
it keeps your hair in trim.
you'll see its non-alcoholic Charlie,
It's made with soothing lanolin"

"You'd better get Wild Root Cream Oil Charlie
start usin' it today
you'll find that you'll, have a tough time Charlie,
keepin' all those gals away

Off topic I know but I started it, so there.

PS neither Brylcream or Wild Root will remove monokote smears but they will keep your plane neat and everything in place

To clean color smears get one of the static sheets your wife uses in the clothes dryer, lay it flat and rub the iron across it, smears will come off.

How do we know they won't remove monokote smears? I'll bet you a bit of Butchwax would do the job!

I know, way off topic, couldn't resist. Just call for Phillip Morris and he'll say Halo everybody, Halo. Now, back on topic, the trim solvent works good for me, but it does dry my hair out.

Seriously though, I've always used Acetone with excellent results. Now what would Bucky Beaver use?

Actually I Use "Axe," Women just love my planes when I spray that stuff on. But I stoped using it when my planes were getting more attention than me. []

I once used "Captain Morgan Rum" on a cloth to wipe the smears off... but then I noticed my landing gear kept bending. [:@]

Seriously, I use a "Iron Sock" when I cover with Ultra or Mono. And make sure your Iron isn't too hot.

Look at the label. Nail polish remover is mostly acetone.

Who doesn't know that? I'd hazard a guess that not 10% of the Saturday-Sunday flyers who show up at the 3 club fields around here have no clue what acetone is and got no idea it's in nail polish. And the few that have actually heard about it believe that it's hard to find and very, very expensive, because they've never even looked for it.

It's also excellent for wiping CA smears off ultracote and for thinning epoxy to brushing consistency.

BTW, you oughta take Greg up on that offer to buy you a beer. Ask him about painting while you're enjoying that free beer. He's forgotten more about painting than 99% of todays modelers will ever know.

Forgive me for jumping on him, I made the Benny Hill assumption that everyone knew acetone is in nail polish remover. I am about to paint this bird. I will be using Klass Kote Epoxy paint. This will be the 4th time I paint a model airplane in the past 3 years using this paint system.

Here is one of the surfaces I have to paint, and match to the Monokote. Well, on this area of canopy, hatch, I do not like this step off, so this become a real PITA!!!

I will have to try to bondo this or something, anyone have any suggestions?

this is what the airplane looks like, it is a 40% kit, I started building it 3 weeks ago.

da Rock, Thanks for the kind words. orthobird. Here's another tip that you probably already know, but maybe others reading this can learn from. Nate at Klass Kote will match any color you need at no extra charge. Just send him a sample (such at unique covering film) and he will match it. Happy New Year, Greg
