1930's Racers.....Anyone making kits
A good friend of mine just picked up 1930's racer, a Meteor I believe. And I'd like to get one or something like it, any ideas where to get any racer from that era.

www.nwhobbytech.com The wait is worth it - these planes fly great. I'd love to do a Laird-Turner racer, and it also has a two piece wing. I love bringing my Gee Bee Y out to the field - always gets attention.

Curtis R3C
You could build a Curtiss R3C bipe racer. Jimmy Doolittle won the Schneider Cup in the 30's with the aircraft on floats. The plans are Don Smith and there are several kit cutters. Mine is 1/4 scale, but there is also a 1/3 scale set available.

I love the 30's planes! I have a Byron Ryan STA or maybe an STM by the time I'm done with it, good to know their is more planes in giant scale out there from this era.

RE: 1930's Racers.....Anyone making kits
Hello - I saw your post about the Curtiss R3C. The plane looks fabulous. You said there were 1/4 and 1/3 scale plans around (1/4 is about right for me). What plans did you use?
Also, while I have you - do you know much about models of the Wedell-Williams Racer, the Gilmore Red Lion? Hostetler has an absolutely beautiful model on the website, but I've seen nothing on the web about his plan compared to Iron Bay's (Byron).
I'm relatively new to RC and in fact an ARF is more suited to my time and needs than a kit or plans -- but those 30's racers are so great looking! Pacific Aeromodel seems to have the best ARF of this ilk, with it's Gee Bee Y. Do you know of any others (meteor, etc.?)
Thanks

fheppenheimer,
Go to http://www.dvhi.net/giantscale/framepage.html on Corrnell Michaels Kit Cutting web page or search for Don Smith plans page. Don Smith has a set of plans for the Curtiss R3C (I used these). The web link also offers complete laser cut kits (and plans, if you still need them) for a 1/4 scale and 1/3 scale version. These are very nice laser cut kits and they provide lots of wood. I could send you more detailed pix if you interested.

Check out Jack Devine Models at http://www.jackdevinemodels.com/laird_turner.htm
He has an incredible 85" Laird-Turner kit that can be built in a couple of weekends. Very nice looking airplane.

Here are a couple more pics of my NWHT Gee Bee Y, now kitted by Jack Devine Models. Really attracts attention at the fly-ins. The Laird-Turner is really cool, plus I believe it has a two piece wing.
