Default Oooops! Battery question...

I just accidentally charged my 8x2700nimh AA cells I use for my 3pk (old model) at 1.4A. It completed the cycle, but the batts were so hot I had to take a reading with the temp gun. 160F!!!!

Have I damaged them permanently, or might I get away with it? 20 years charging batts and I never did this before!! [sm=red_smile.gif]

I thought so. Never mind, at least they were only AA cells, If they don't at least last the day tomorrow, I'll know something's up. Thanks for the reply.

You probably did just remove some capacity or life from them. I frequently mess up settings , so maybe we removed 10 cycles lives and 100 mah ? That's my best guess. You may have done them some good too.

Foxy, can you see inside the pack or are the wrapped with a opaque PVC. Im willing to bet all that happened was some venting, I really wouldn't worry too much about it, that is unless you are using the Tx for something like a plane or boat where if your Tx dies you could lose the model or do serious damage. I've gotten some of my Sub C packs to 150+ without any damage that I notice.

They were just regular (Nosram) NimH AAs, I charged them all at once in the carrier that slots into the tx (old model 3pk), no noticeable effect so far, they're the same voltage fully charged that they always are. I guess duration and longevity will tell the tale. Like I say, fortunately, they were just AAs. They'll be used for an all day practise session with my 1/10th nitro tourer (my baby, the Xray NT1) tomorrow, so any duration damage should be apparent. I'll update if there's anything to tell. Thanks for the info guys...

I don't think you are going to see any issues......however, I could be wrong. They say that NiMHs are more sensitive to heat than Nicds.......and if these would've been Nicds, I would tell you not to worry about it.

But, since this was an automatic charger....it is unlikely that they were "overcharged"(this was a peak charger, correct?). And since this has happened only once, I forsee things will be fine. Now, don't be doing this 10x in a row.....that will definitely cause havoc! Naturally, manufacturers always tell you safe limits not to be exceeded.....such as temps for Nimhs. And these specs are usually always a "bit on the safe side".

Like you said, you'll find out soon enough. But, I believe it will be fine.
