Default How many hours?

How many hours does it take to build a savage? if you had the entire day, to build it, could it be done?

I have built a nitro rs4 type 3ss in about 4 and a half hours, my mad force i did it in 2 hours, but a lot of it was preassembled?

I bought the Savage X SS, and I'm unsure if any of the parts come preassembled?

first timer = 15 hours

after i took my savage a part about 6 times, i am pretty sure i could do it in about 5 hours. all the hard parts like tranny, differential, engine, etc come pre-assembled

pythonfan, If you have experience building RC's I don't think the X SS will take more than 7-8 hours, for your first time. The instructions are really well laid out and all the parts very well organized.

After you become familiar with it it will only take about 2-5 hours depending on your skill and knowledge of the truck.

I took my truck completely apart and washed all the pieces. My rebuild only took me 2 hours. (power screwdriver helps[8D])

I built my first Savage from the ground up and it took me about 4hrs. Actually, I was tearing down my SS and converting it with the X-upgrade kit; this virtually required me to completly disassemble it ard rebuilt it from scratch as if it were a box kit.

Did you buy the truck new ur used? If its used then you can expect it to be longer cuz you have to take it apart on top of putting it back together. The diffs are definately something to have a look at on a used truck.

I bought it brand new, for 359, at a eBay store.

i have teared down my e-zilla to lock the rear diff, and it took little bit cause i did not have the right tools. now i do tho.

Adjusting the toe in and camber are about the most tedious parts of building the savage.

I got is used off of Ebay, paid only $50, but no elxtronics and the K4.6 on it was toast.

It was actually fun to tear it down and rebuild it.

I personally reccomend the Hot Bodies TwinZilla kit. You do not have to do any mods whatsoever to put twin F4.1 engines on it. If I were you, I would look on-line for a used TwinZilla kit without the engines. The HB .26ci engines do not come near in power as the big blocks that are being sold today (e.g. Axials, SH's, STSs and so forth).

The twin engine kit I have is the New Era Models kit. In my books, it has two strikes against it.
First of all, New Era Models uses inches instead of metric. I absolutely hate mixing metric with imperial (standard) measurements. Either use all metric or use all inches, but not both on one vehicle.
The second strike is that the TVPs need to be cut with a hack-saw to put twin big block engines in it. Otherwise, it is only a shelf queen that you never run because you cannot install the clutch bells; there is insufficeint room.

What I did with my New Era Models kit is, first of all, convert everything to metric. I retapped all of the holes so that they would fit HPI and Traxxas hardware (HPI and Traxxas are both all metric). Then, I busted out a hack-saw and cut away at the TVPs so the clutchbells can be installed on the engines. I used a Revo mount kit to make a new brace on the left side TVP and I transferred the "h" shaped arch to the right side TVP to enforce the section of the right TVP I hacked off.
