I suppose it all depends on what you are clearcoating. For clearcoating latex, I use water based polyurethane.

just posted an answer in your identical thread in the Questions&Answers forum.

It's best for everyone to post in just one forum. Matter of fact, mods are asked by upper management to clean out duplicate threads.

i'm going to be clearcoating rustoleum , i tried some polly in a small spot on the wing
and it shines it up nice. i just dont know if its going to yellow in the near future.
if the laquer is not glow proof , i guess its a no go . I DIDNT know where the best place to post this was so i also went to Q + A . RCU should have a seperate
forum for finishing, i'll have to sugest it to them

And we have a forum for suggestions. It's down in the last list of forums, the RCU support forums list.

Oil Base Poly will yellow in about 6 - 8 months. The yellowing is VERY noticable on light colors.
Water Base Poly will not yellow, HOWEVER, it is fuel RESISTANT with the following caveats:
1. Let the poly dry for a MINIMUM of 7 days before exposing to exhaust residue.
2. Do not let the residue remain on the finish for longer than 4 hours. After 4 hours the finish will soften.

For a fuel proof clear coat use Ultracote clear or Lustercrap clear. You might also want to do some test panels and investigate an ACRYLIC clear. I have had good results with Duro Acrylic Clear Enamel (auto stores - gloss only) and Krylon ACRYLIC gloss clear. You need to do a raw fuel AND exhaust residue test with the type of fuel you are using (different brands react differently)

FWIW - MANY acrylic enamels are fuel proof, HOWEVER, you should do a test panel first to make sure the brand and color you have in mind is OK before commiting to it.

I am pretty much over luster coat it stinks and it gives a questionable finish.
other than Varathane Diamond finish WB polyurathane,I am sold on www.warbirdcolors.com paints, there water based and fuel proof to 15% nitro it uses a catalyst to harden the finishes there clear works well and sprays out nicely.

You also have Nelson's paint. Waterbase paint and you need to add the catalyst to make it fuel proof. They also have it in clear.

Is the Rustoleum Clean (Satin and/or Gloss) fuel proof for glow fuel?
