Default Converting from points to electronic ignition

I have a Kioritz 40cc engine that uses points and I want to convert it to electronic ignition. How do I remove the 6-bolt prop hub so I can remove the magnetic flywheel? Thanks.

Since a lot of people have never seen a Kioritz I thought I would post a photo of mine. It starts very easy and runs very smooth on a test stand. I inherited this one. I have never put it on a plane because it is very heavy. It has the original points.

Now for your original question. It appears that the 6 bolt hub is screwed onto the front of of the crankshaft. The plate between the 6 bolt hub and the magnet has holes in it with nothing in the holes. It was probably part of the original back pack blower. The magnet may be on a tapered shaft with a key.

Now for my question. If you get the magnet off what kind of special prop hub are you going to have machined? If you are serious about an electronic ignition then ship it to Ralph to have him work his magic. I assure you that it will be lighter and run like a charm when you get it back. I think there is plenty of room in the back, where the points are, to put one of Ralph's ignitions.

Big Bird,

I have a 1/5 D-VII that I plan to put this engine in since I already have it and it is in the recommended range. However, it's too long when mounted at the original firewall. By removing the points at the back and mounting it flush (with iso-mounts if needed) it will fit without having to do any bashing. To do this will require converting it to electronic ignition and by doing that some weight can be eliminated. Is this "going too far"?. Thanks for your comments.

Sounds like a good plan. Keep us posted on the progress.

rcnats.... Ralph usually installs his ignition inside a cup shaped mount on the rear, but I wanted to make sure you know, that this is not necessary. I have had Ralph setup a couple of engines for me with separately mounted ignition modules. If you are comfy doing your own work, CHignitions can also help you out. Ralph takes things further for you though, machining off unused case bosses, etc. His work is really nice and oh, by the way, his work is warrantied for life. At least give him a call and talk about it...

Big Bird and Arobatx,

Thanks for your wisdom and advice. I have sent an e-mail to Ralph and is waiting for his response. I plan to have a new hub machined and install a new ignition system. If I cannot then I 'll send it to Ralph. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.
