My CG Extra 300 with a G 23 engine weighs 10.2lbs. I currently use a 16 x 6 MA prop. which turns 6,800 rpm. What props are you guys usiing on your G 23 and what is the rpm. Thanks.

G23 Prop
Sounds like something wrong there. I use a 16 x 8 MA prop and turn 9000 RPM. This is the Classic series, a heavy prop. I tried a 15 x 8 K series, lighter prop, and only got about 100 RPM increase if that.

Ran first tank thru my brand new G23 this past weekend. Took forever to use up 14 oz. Got 9.7k on a Dynathrust 15X8. Swapped out to a Classic 16x6. Did not get rpm but the plane started to rise out of my hands when held vertically. Both props were tuned for max rpm's, i.e., 1/8 turn in and it became too lean.

6,800 is way low for this engine. The g23 properly tuned should swing a 16x8 at least high eights to low nines. My g23 has had about 25 hours on it and leaned out it pulls 9300 but is set on 9100. Check your needles you will find they are a little on the rich side. Pull the plug and confirm this first if its black then go the needles. If its tan or white look further.

I will certaintly check on the mixture and plug colour on my motor as I seem to be way down on rpm. compared to you guys.
Anyway, I do not anticipate any major problems, as the rpm figure I quoted is "out of the box running" and the plane has been flown several times as is.
With the engine properly tuned there should be an increase in the model's performance. Thanks to you all for your comments.

Latest update, I ran my G23 and did a bit of tweaking to the H/S needle and got the rpm up to 8,000, but now the engine has a flat spot in the midrange. If you advance the throttle quickly from idle to high speed the engines sounds like it is fuel starved and dies, but if the throttle is advanced slowly it runs okay. What needs adjusting??

If the motor is doing that it is lean on the low needle. Richen the low up 1/8 at a time until it will transition nicely but no further. Then adjust high needle for max rpm then richen up 1/12 of a turn if the motor is new the rpm will come up as it runs in. They are a good little motor give it heaps.

Can someone tell me if my Zenoah G23 engine is one of the earlier or later models. It's designation marking is G230PU. Thanks
