Default DS8711

Hey guys I posted something about this in the quique forum too but I was wondering if one 8711 on 6v would be ok for my 100cc QQ yak.

I have been using two y harnessed 8611as and unfortunatly burnt one up, I really need a matchbox and now a new 8611a. It would be cheaper for me to just get an 8711 and no matchbox.

I really do not want to compromise performance in doing this though.

1 burnt up because digitals need a matchbox or a mix through the radio.......a Y harness won't match up center and endpoints correctly.

Where are you looking to put it?

Rudder, you may be ok.......ailerons you'll probably have enough torque but the aileron itself will most likely flex

I have one 8711 on my wildhare 35 % sukhoi. It weighs 25.5 pounds and it flies it just fine. It has the power to do a sustained knife edge and will do a KE loop.

use a floating bellcrank instead... no "matchbox" needed
(if you stick with 2 servos)

well one servo on a surface on that size plane is okay, however I would go with another 8611a and use a matchbox and an SWB servo tray with the pulley system. No worries if there is a point of failure...however it is added weight, but if you have the power it is no big deal. I am running two 8711's on the rudder of my 35% Aeroworks Extra 260...talk about stump pulling power...but I am also running a DPSI system from Emcotec to handle the current!

Thanks for all of the replies guys I do have a matchboz and 8611A on order (already have SWB pull tray)

I was also using a short HD y-harness for my 2x 4800mah Reilion batteries. I didnt have any extra plug ins. It works fine but I know someone said that you want them going into the reciever into two different place. I never thought amp draw would be a problem on this plane. I have an spektrun AR-7000.

Figure it out; you can either look for the current draw published for the servos you use, or as a rule of thumb you can figure about 1 amp per 100 oz. of servo torque and that can go up if the servo is stalled.

One of the problems with the new 8711 is that it can draw a bunch more power than the 8611a, in the neighborhood of 33% more, you don't get another 100 oz. of torque for nothing.

Then consider that the connectors found in most of our currently availble servos/switches/extensions are only capable of a 3 to 4 amp (depending on which source you choose to believe) continuous throughput and you can see that you're headed for a problem.

If someone is using a 72MHz setup and the voltage drops below that required to keep the rx running, it stops but turns back on as soon as the needed voltage is again available. It's my suspicion that this is what has accounted for a lot of what people have referred to as "getting hit" while running the 72MHz stuff. If you drop the Spektrum rx below 3.5 volts (Spektrum's pubished data) it will turn off and take longer to come back online once the power is back up, but that takes longer to do than a 72MHz since it has to re-aquire the two tx frequencies. Guess what your model is doing during that time?

Just my .02 ...

One 8711 is way more than enough for a 100cc plane under 29 pounds. In fact, it is recommended on the H9 35% 260! There is a video out there of Mike McConnville doing a knife edge SQUARE loop with that plane on one 8711, at 28.9 pounds dry weight. Heck, I flew my Aeroworks 35% 260 on one 5955 on the rudder, at only about 250 oz. of torque, and it was plenty of power for a one roll rolling circle, knife edge snaps, etc.
Before these powerhouse servos were available, pro's were using dual 125-150 oz servos with no problem...

250-300 flights on my Carden 300 and they are are like new.
Still tight, centering is perfect.
