How much torque should be required for steering?
I was wondering since I am getting a new radio without servos if I should get a high torque servo for the steering (its for my RS4 Type SS). The 10 dollar one comes with like 42 oz/in of torque. I could get a 20 dollar one that has 70 or so. should I spend the extra money? Also is it ok to use a hi-tec servo with a futaba reciever?
Thanks
Kyle

Spend the extra money and get a decent steering servo. I have a 50 in/oz with my HPI Nitro MT and it sucks.
Here's a great servo with lots of torque and Metal Gears (Thanks CMO!) that should be more than adequate.

I agree with dagass.
I also have a standard 40-50oz servo in my HPI Nitro MT, and getting a new servo is next on my shopping list.
Here's a link to a pretty good Hi-tec servo which has futaba plugs:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...p&I=LXUZ90&P=K
This servo has 106.93 oz/in at 4.8v and 133.31 oz/in at 6.0v (!)
Excellent for offr-oad cars atleast ... you may not need all this torque since you have an on-road car, but the more, the better

How much torque should be required for steering?
I would recommend nothing less than 100 oz. for 1/8 scale, but I'm using a 50 oz. on my RC 10GT and it works just fine.

Yeah but with on road cars although torque is very important look for decent speed as well..cause you dont need all that much torque in the SS
Thanks

I have 110oz for my NMT.. and it does a decent job ripping the wheels from side to side.. Which is necessary becuase my RPM ball ends I kept tight so they don't pop off..
For my SS, I'm going to do with a servo at about 70oz with no less than .15 travel time. Also, put some Bearings in your steering bell, that will help them travel real nice.

4 AA Ni-Cad / Ni-Mah = 4.8v

4 AA alkalines would be 6 volts because they are 1.5 volts each, while 4 AA rechargeables would be 4.8 volts because they are 1.2 volts each.

I had a 70oz JR servo in my SS and it was just fine.
Look for something with high speed, that can make things quite fun!
100oz is overkill for onroad. For offroad 150+ is "turn through anything".
Have fun!
