Default setting idle with a Walbro carb

I have an older 3w100 with a Walbro carb and, even with careful low needle adjustments, I'm having a hard time getting a smooth idle below 1500 rpm. I want to get it down to the 1300, 1400 range. Any ideas?

This is a good link for tuning Walbro carbs.

Maybe a bigger heavier prop.

I agree with Rich.

What prop are you running?
Sometimes the lighter wooden props can cause you headaches.

I find with my old 3W 140 that by using a prop that loads the engine better, it turns the beast into a new motor.
The 3W props do a good job of taming the beast.

Let me know how you make out.

Well, I'm a bonehead. I'm coming to IMAC from Electric planes (a Fliton Extra 330s 59inches) and grduated up to this Comp Arf Extra 330L so I'm not as hot on adjusting Gas as I should be. I was using the servo end travel points to try to adjust this idle speed and Pedro Bratuas, Master Pilot and Mega Cool Guy that he is, helped me with it today and suggested that I just dial the throttle trim down 3 clicks. It worked like a champ and now the plane is ticking over smoothly at 1250 and I can actually land smoothly---what a concept!!!

Thanks for the Help you guys.

Sometimes the simplest things are overlooked. Been there, done that. Glad you taimed the beast. Hot landings can be adventurous with these lightly loaded aerobatic planes.
