Default Need Help

Today I noticed that I have a crack in my fuel tank. Tommorrow all the LHS's are closed around here so I need a quick fix. I've done a search and noticed two methods heating up a butter knife and using a sodering iron. What happened was I never turned around the screw at top that holds in the shocks, and it put a crack in my tank. How would you use a soldering iron to seal it shut. I'm going to buy a new one next weekend, but I need to fix it tommorrow so I can run it.

So basically I need instruction on the soldering iron method

Thanks
Eric

Do the pieces fit together tight enough, so you could super glue them?
Maybe coat it with rtv or something to fill in the holes after?
It sounds rigged up, but I understand you just need it to last a day.
Bring cash to the track, and ask around, maybe someone will have an extra.

The soldering iron method is basically just melting the crack back together.

The soldering iron method is basically just melting the crack back together.
The above is correct, just make sure that you don't burn a bigger hole into it. Just firmly hold the crack closed, then wipe the soldering iron over the crack just enough for it to melt (it should be really quick since these are at hurrendous temperatures). I would guess that the butter knife would be used to tidy it up a bit. Overall, I wouldn't reccomend using superglue, since the fuel is a chemical and in some way it could weaken the hold of the superglue. But to be sure, you could just do both (superglue and soldering iron trick).

Ah, just realised. Don't do the soldering iron trick. If there's any gas/fuel left in the tank (even if dry), the heat of the soldering iron could ignite the tank. It's very unlikely, but just to be sure, I wouldn't do it if I were you.

There's no way to win is there?

I went out and got some opoxy for plastic. I just applied it so we'll see how it does. It sets in 1 min and cures in about an hour. So I'll do the water test tommorrow when I get up. I just need it to hold up for one day of running. I'll get a new tank next weekend. I'm only able to bash on the weekends so I hope it hold up for tommorrow. It says it says its water restant and resists most liquidsa and permanet strnght up to 2500 PSI so I hope it does the trick.

Water is not glow fuel, glow fuel will most likely eat thru the epoxy. Most epoxy's are not made for RC use and the few that are would stand up to glow fuel but I'm not sure if it would on a plastic tank. I guess worst case scenero your tank leaks and you have a mess to clean up.
