None of the above. Pitts are draggy planes and you need an engine on the 6.0 cu in end which is the 100 cc range.

I couldn't agree more with rc bugman. 100cc is the way to go for a Pitts that size.

80 to 100cc, with a strong lean to the 100. Any of the engines you noted were below the suggested minimums from the start. There was no approximate weight listed but I would suspect it will be a bit over 20 pounds (9 plus kilos). Along with pulling the weight you'll need to overcome the drag noted in the other posts. 80-85cc's would be a minimum, and weight will be your enemy. More weight equates to faster landing speeds.

One of our club members has the Aeromaster the old version built from the kit. This is a 73� wing span biplane and he has the G62 on his. His came in at 20+ lbs. Good flying airplane, not for hovering but lots of fun.

I have a scratch built Pitts Python, my own design, 80� wing span, with a 3W – 60 for power. Total weight is around 26+ lbs. This one also is a great flying airplane with lots of power, but not for hovering. Just a fun airplane.


My current scratch build project is a Pitts Special with an 80� wing span. This one will have a BME 115. Way too much power, but what the heck, why not.

You will likely need the weight of the heavier G62 in the nose, but I agree with others that none of your available choices are ideal. I also think that 80cc should be your low end on a Pitts of this size (35%), and using the extra weight for more power just makes better sence. They (the Pitts) are, as has been said, draggy. Also , power will get you out of more predicaments than it will get you into. This plane will be underpowered IMO, with any of your choices. If it was a little smaller, I would go with the 3W 55I. I think it is the most powerful of your choices. I have one, and my G62 won't touch it, and I fly circles around guys with DA50s.
