Default how should I put my planes in my camopy covered truck

I have a little Toyota pickup with a 6 foot bed and a canopy. I would like any body's ideas or what they have done to help me put my planes in the back of it.
thanks,
Seth

Open the tail-gate.

Sorry, didn't mean to be a smart-*****, but could you be a little more specific? I mean, are you looking for some sort of carrier design?

I saw a Toyota pickup with canopy that had a slide out "floor"
fitted a few inches above the load body- it was great simply slide the floor out and all your stuff is in front of you - no crawling around. The planes could be tethered to the floor for transport

Default Planes in Truck

I have a friend who has a 6' bed on his truck with shell/cap. He went to Home Depot and bought some PVC (plastic pipe) and made a wing rack for wings and puts the fuse on the floor of the bed (ties them down).

PVC pipe is the way to go!! Use either 1/2 " or 3/4" (depending on size/weight of your planes). You can also put some wood dowel or I use ready-rod inside of the PVC if you need the additional support. this rack can be just a wing rack and the fuse can sit on the bed floor, or you can custom make the rack to hold the fuse, too so you can use the bed for other stuff! This is a pick of mine. It will carry my 38% Christen Eagle bipe and two other .60-size planes. Cost less than $20.00. Good luck!

Seth,

for a long time I had a piece of foam that I cut to the size of my truck bed. I used long pieces of cloth that I pinned the plane down with. After doing that for about two years I learned that with just a rubber mat the planes do not move (providing that the plane does not have tri-gear like a trainer) as long as you drive with some brains. Haven't had any damage to this day. Been doing this for four years now.

Default Pickup Rack

Good Morning Astrohog,

That looks good. How did you attach the racks to the camper shell ledge?

I put carpet on the bed so things wouldn't slide as easy and used 2 rails on the top made from 2X2s with hooks to put rubber bands on to hold fuses and wings on the rack. Held the wood on with C clamps. Quick, easy and easy to remove when I don't want them in.

Hi Bob,

The PVC actually just rests on the ledge. My canopy is carpeted, so there is enough friction to hold it in place. It does move just a little, but it has not been a problem to date. I thought if it did slide around too much, I would just put some self-adhesive velcro strips to the bottom of the pipe and that would do the trick!

Good luck

Regards,

Jeff
