Default The cost of a 1/8 Buggy

Mugen MBX-XR Works kit $439.00
OS RZVO1B(P).21 $269.00
OFNA Pipe 063model $60.00
JR330PCM Receiver $100.00
(2) Hitec HS5945MG servos $200.00
Receiver 1700 MAH Battery $35.00

Total..............$1,145.00

You can improvise $699.00 for the Kyosho Kani 2 kit, and the total comes to.................$1,365.00!

Remember, these figures dont include a radio! Add 539.00 for the JR-R1 PCM. That brings us to a total of $1,684.00 for the ECONOMICAL Mugen Works, and $1,904.00 for the Kyosho Kani 2.

Any questions as to why nobody has 1/8 buggys?

Grampi I understand why your reluctant to buy a 1/8th buggy.....Who has $2,000.00 laying around for a TOY!!!!??????

Packfan88 you have a keen eye buddy........hasn't been run yet! I'm having a bit of trouble starting my buggy....apparently the cost of the buggy isn't the last of the problems once you decide thats what you want!

Those are my actual costs posted above. Most all of them are mail-order and slightly less than you would pay retail. My local sales tax is 7.55% also so dont forget TAX if you buy local.....OUCH!

BUGGYSRUS, I guess you could get the Kyosho with that black magic engine you have, with a 150.00 pipe then you would have TOP-OF-THE-LINE!

I bought the RB 86. I want a hybrid onroad/offroad configurable buggy lol.

Change clutch/Tires and you have onroad. Switch and you have offroad

After I get my Onroad tires (in the mail) I cant wait to slap on that 18T clutch bell that i8Tweety sent me and see what kind of "magic" I can pull

Wheelies?!?!?!?!??! I bet they are possible with as much HP as these little devils make. I wonder what the actual power to weight ratio is for a 1/8th buggy with a high HP engine?

Unless you lock up your center diff, you can forget about wheelies. Even with a solid center or torsen diff in the middle(I have both to play with), wheelies are not in the equation with a Kyosho buggy and a Rossi HPS.

Man, you guys sure do got the "expensive" buggies. I bought mine on eBay for $150 and I sure am happy with that. I know its no where in competition with you guy's buggies, but it sure is fun in the dirt.
Im gonna try to post a picture, but I dont think its gonna work

Nothing wrong with that buggy! I like the price too!

I'm going to make a big effort to break in the OS and Mugen this week. I just replaced all the fuel lines, filters, glow plug, completely went through the radio settings, ETC. Trust me I'm not afraid of getting her dirty, just gotta get it running. Breaking in .21's isn't the easiest task I have learned also along the way.

It's an addiction. You start off small. You spend a couple of bucks here and there. You get a taste of it. Pretty soon, a $50 hobby bill doesn't make you blink. $100, not a thought. Next thing you know, you're completely out of control with around 50 cars / trucks / planes / boats.

Don't worry, some day you'll be there too.

todd that is not the cost of the buggy that is what ....j/k
yeah i cant remember his name but he was too rude for me.

what i dont get is why are buggies so expensive?
i mena even the t-maxx is under $400 now and most on-roads are too. but buggies seem to be minimum $400 and good ones at over $500?
im sure making the parts is the same cost, so why are they so expensive?

You'd also think the price of buggies would come down because MT's have taken a big share of the market that used to belong to buggies. Some retailers have even stopped selling buggies because they're selling more MT's. Using supply and demand, the price of buggies should be coming way down, and the price of MT's should be going through the roof!

I don't think MTs have taken any of the buggy market. They are taking a bite out of the "entry level" 1/8 scale buggy market (one that didn't exist until a few short years ago). The people who were buying high end 1/8 scales still are. It's just like the people who are buying an OS RZV-01B or RB C5 will not be buying a 8 port hyper any time soon.

I'm not knocking the entry buggy market, I think it's doing great things for the hobby. I just feel that the high end buggy market is just as strong as ever.

If and when I add a MT to my collection (or 2 or 3), it will not be replacing one of my buggies.

Packfan88 I really am with you on the price of the 1/8th buggys. I have a TMAXX, and besides maybe the differentials and axles, the manufacturing cost must be closer to a MAXX, than the retail prices might suggest. I cant talk though...I bought one. The economy Mugen, LOL. I guess some things are just sooo cool, you have to have them no matter the sacrifice. A 1/8 Buggy is just that, too bad they know it.....

Although I will say this. When you buy either the Mugen or Kyosho, and then it comes time to decide on a engine. The RZVO1B or RB C5, the Black Magic, ETC. is really what will work so you spend 300.00-500.00 on the engine, a good pipe is 60.00-150.00. You could spend 50.00-100.00 on servos, you need 2. Both the Mugen and Kyosho use a starter box, thats another 100.00. It adds up fast. However, let me say this......In the end you have a almost lifetime quality model thats one of a kind, and almost indestructible. The tuning and adjustability is awesome, you adjust front/rear brake bias with a twist of a servo arm end. Differential technology, there is just alot more thought it seems have gone into the 1/8 buggys, and I'm sure thats part of the price tag. Twist my arm....ok gimme one!

The belted stay the same size at speed where as the non-belted when you drive fast expand. The belted are almost 3X the price of the NON-belted also. I use the cheap ones and they work fine, save the money for something else if you ask me. Although I bet a set of the belted type are excellent and probably worth it if your a serious asphalt buggy racer....err.....yea... I imagine the wear is identicle, and mainly based on your driving style.

Best person to ask would be i8tweety from right here at RCU.
He sent me that and a 15T clutch bell almost for free!
And they wonder why I love this place so much!

PS: If you guys have questions directed straight at me and me only please PM me. That way I'll definitely see it and respond faster. I guess this applies to anyone around RCU as well!
