I am trying to decide on the painting technique that will be used on my BUSA DR.1. I would like to paint base colors with latex paint, use Testors Model Masters acrylics in my airbrush to do all the detail and shadow/weathering work and then seal it all up with a waterbased polyurethane out of a spray can. This, will be on Solartex. Will this combo of paints work or do you think that I will have problems??
Thanks for your input.

It should work OK.. I did my stick with the following
Polycryllic to attach and fill the weve
Kilz latex primer
Rustolum rattle can green for color
Airbrushed Rustolium white thinned with acetone for stripes
rattle can 99$ walmart flat black stripes
WBPU satin finish (brushed on)
It's holding up quite well.. I'd put an extra coat or two of WBPU on where the exhaust hits and be sure to clean up within a few hours of flying of you run glow fuel.

That should work fine; I assume you're going gas engine? The langing gear winglet will get the worst of the exhaust, do several coats of polyurethane, or use a good automotive clearcoat there. Latex goes on Solartex like it was designed for it.

I would suggest stoping by the craft store and taking a look at all of the water based acrylic enamels that they have. I used Craft Paint from Michael's for 88 cents a bottle and overcoated with oil based satin polyurethane. The polyurethane has yellowed just slightly and adds to the illusion of a WW1 plane.

Yes, I will be using gas. I just wanted to know if that combo listed would be compatible with one another and not cause any problems. Thanks

This is the combination I used with my Top Flite Spitfire. I am pleased with the results. I used outdoor latex paint for the major colors applied with an airbrush. The markings and weathering was done with a combination of Model Masters and Humbrol paints. I used outdoor water based Varathane Diamond Spar Urethane in a spray can for the clear coat.

I have covered a wing in Sig Koverall, I used Balsarite Fabric on the wing laid on the covering. I am not happy with the results from the balsarite. I plan on removing the covering and starting over. Is their a product that I can use to remove the Balsarite besides sanding. I plan on now using Nitreat dope
Thanks
