making batteries
anything i should do to make sure that they
perform at their best quality
i plan on making some 8 cell packs for my detta st
has anyone made some for the detta st
any like diagrams
or should i just go with what fits best
i am using
gp 1100 nimh 2/3 a cells
orion silver battery bonez
weller 40w iron
60/40 lead free rosin core solder
should i use flux or is it fine without
can i get flux like @ home depot or like radio shack
i heard i shud "scuff" the batts
whats that and how u do it
so it would be + to - and then the extra + and extra - on the end cells i solder
a battery bar 2 it and the connector wit wire 2 the bar
or do i just solder the connector with wire straight to the batteries
thanks!

Step 1. Plug in the Iron (preferably one of those "gun types")
Step 2. Scuff the surfaces to be soldered with coarse sandpaper
Step 3. Apply some flux to the surface to be soldered
Step 4. "tin" the area with a little solder, remember to be fast on the cell
Step 5. Repeat 2-4 for all other cells
Step 6. "tin" the connectors (unles "pre tinned")
Step 7. hold the batteries together with like a rubber band
Step 8. using like needle nosed pliers, hold the bar in place and apply the heat, a few seconds is fine, just enough to get the solder to flow evenly
Step 9. don't try and move the joint for anything, it will cause the solder to not cool properly and cause a bad joint, a good joint should be nice and shiny
Step 10. Repeat 6-9 until all steps are completed
Parts needed.
Gun type soldering iron (like one of those 120 watters)
Flux (radio shack should carry it)
SOLDER (not lead free, sorry, melts to high)
Sandpaper (60 grit should do the trick)
Eye protection (so we don't see you become like the dude in your avitar)
Gloves (to keep the lead off your hands, and to prevent burns)
Adequate ventilation (a litte fan works wonders at dealing with fumes)
As for soldering it on, go + to - and vice versa, here is a diagram to help. TIP: allways remember that if you have + to + you increased the amount of charge (and vice versa), BUT, if you have + to - you increased the voltage (and vice versa), so, hope that helps. included is a shortened diagram of how the wiring should go, good luck and be safe[8D]
SIDE NOTE, to help keep the cell's tems down during the process, try wraping them in a damp towell (making shure it doesn't get burnt by the iron)
