Default It is what it is

The Deal

1. Off Road Car
2. On Road Car - Pan Car front servo is broke (No biggie to me)
3. Off Road Truck
4. 4 Controls and Servos K.O. Propo (NO CRYSTALS)
*Where do I get Crystals??????
5. Batteries
6. Few other odds and ends

$100 cash

I am buying it from an a guy in his mid 20's with a wife and a kid. He said he got all of this equipment at a garage sale and was starting to get into the RC World before his wife became pregnant. He said and I will quote this, "I don't know much about RC stuff" He seems like a nice guy. To be honest I don't know alot about RC equipment either but I been calling alot of hobby stores to buy a kit 1/10 On road touring car and getting sticked shocked at $200+ - Some of the kits look real nice though!

Here's the deal I give this guy $100 he gives me a 2nd or 3rd hand box of RC equipment listed above. Based on your reaction I shouldn't pry too much into his situation take the RC stuff and run.
Any one else have any comments? Please comment.

BTW Tower Hobbies has some nice entry level Touring cars for $109. Thanks!

Default RC - Equipment - General Question (Looking to buy)

Jeff:

If you decide you don't want it buy it anyway.
I'll give you your money back, just send it to me.

That is assuming they aren't Wal-Mart specials. As you describe them they are not.

Look at the motors. They should be at least 1 1/4" diameter, and about 1 5/8" long or longer. Anything smaller is bound to be Wal-Mart.

Don't recognize "K. O. Propo" as a radio brand, could they be "KyoshO Propo?" They also could be something on 49 mHz, if they are 49 mHz they're almost definitely Wal-Mart stuff, leave them alone. The transmitters are required to have the frequency labeled.

Another give-away is using the little nine volt batteries for the transmitters, range is about 100' to 150'. Not good.

If you can get all the information off the cars and transmitters I'll be abke to give better advice, will he let you take them home for inspection?

The thing that bothers me the most is the lack of crystals. I can think of no reason why they would have been removed. And if the transmitters are really some off-the-wall brand you might not be able to replace them at all.

But the worst you can get hurt is $100. Unless they are obviously Wal-Mart I'd be inclined to give him the c-note.

Please note, I am not intending to bash Wal-Mart, their cars are good for the price but they will not stand up to the "Bash and Crash" the "Serious" cars are subjected to. And they are a lot less expensive.

Hope this helps.

Bill.

Tweety:

KO Radios.

So I learned my "Thing" for the day. I play with airplanes, I merely put up with cars, but I do enjoy boats.

A KO car radio is roughly equivalent to JR plane radios.

I'd make sure that stuff isn't hot first before I bought anything.
