Emil,
I recommend that you contact Kerry Sterner, Facet designer, for info on any kitting of the 2300 Series. Kerry's contact info is at the bottom of Posts 1 & 2. I know that semi-kits were produced and sold by Great Northern Models many years ago. These were laser cut parts of the formers/doublers and foam cores, etc. Great Northern also produced semi-kits of the Series 1200 for the smaller turbines- 8-12 lb thrust. I'm currently building a 1200 series but from plans and everything has to be cut, joined and assembled to a finished flying model. Also note that Kerry designed a Series 1700 Facet for the 17--22 lb turbines. Some builders have even installed retracts in this version. The Facets are great for "every-day" sport flying jet activities.

Yes, I have a 1200 with a P60 that I fly regularly. All my friends make fun of me for flying that ugly thing, but I like it, and since it is so simple to assemble and fly with fixed gear, flaps, and brakes, it has become a favorite of mine. I also have more complicated jets, SkyMaster F4, Ultra Flash, F-15, and other scale stuff, but it most of it is high maintenance, high dollar, high pucker factor, so I tend to go back to my Facet for low hassle flying fun, plus the P60 just sips fuel, so I can really fly a lot for low bucks. I've had 4 of them, and can't see me ever being without.
If Kerry would put the Facet back into production, I think it would be a seller. It ain't all that pretty, but it is really a great sport plane that is simple, cheap, fun to fly, and a low pucker factor.
Regards

Les,
Local jet fliers here in the northeast refer to the Facet as a tadpole. A close jet buddy of mine (since departed) built one of the 1200- Series and powered it with a Wren 44 airstart. This was the 1200 HP version with a swept wing, finished in a Navy A-6 Intruder scheme-he even flew it at warbird events. It was his everyday sport jet and has since changed owners. Mine is the original non-swept version to be finished in a Reno racer scheme-powered by a FTE-500 or a Wren 44K Gold.

George,
Great looking color scheme on your Facet 1200 HP. I noted that you enlarged the vertical fin on yours-was this from the kit/semikit or did you enlarge it yourself? Also, what did you do for brakes- air, electic???

Thanks Art,
The F-4 scheme lent itself well on this particular one. I did the glassing and primer, my buddy did the color via airbrush, and I finished with decals and clear.
It has been years to say the least, but I think I built the vertical according to the plans. I say that because I was fairly new to "building" at the time, and would not have chanced making a change I didn't know anything about. I was in close contact with Kerry during the build and do not recall talking to him on any specifics of the fin.
Regarding the brakes, I used air (BVM wheels & brakes).

George,
How did you install the BVM Brakes and Wheels to the dural gear of the Facet? Another jet bud and I are trying to resolve a brake situation on his Facet 1200 HP. On mine, I bought the gear package from Sierra but understand they are no longer offering it. I also enlarged the vertical fin after hearing problems with the original 1200 Series- with the straight wing. The enlarged fin and swept wing may have solved these glitches.

Hi Art,
I think I used these axles (http://www.dreamworksrc.com/catalog/Axle-Shafts-316) and "ground" the sides of the integrated hex to allow the brake hub to be engaged by the axle and butt up to the landing gear, then just used a regular wheel collar to hold the wheel on. Simple!

We offer some inexpensive electromagnetic wheel / brake sets in a few sizes, see here (although it seems we sold out over the holiday, more stock on the way) which would work well on fixed gear like the Facet.

Here are some pictures of my latest Facet. I still have one for repair in the rafters that I am going to kit bash into a NAVY A6 Intruder, but it will have simple retracts (spring airs). I think it will still fly the same as the original Facet after I get finished. The joke around my club is that my Facets have pretty much become the club jet trainer for several budding jet pilots. I know of at least four guys who are now in jets because they flew my Facets and had a great time. The P60 I have has been in all my Facets and now has 18:27 min on it, but still going strong. That will tell you how many hours I have in them. Another buddy of mine liked my Facet so well, he scratch built one from plans, but made the nose a little wider and bigger so there was more room for the equipment. It flew just like the original, so they can be modified successfully with good results.

Les,
Lookin good. I like the double decker equipment tray and your layout of all the turbine stuff. Note the shape of your vertical fin as compared to an original non-swept version shown by Todd W. a couple posts back. The brake quandary may be solved by your Todd's, and Chuck's solutions. Many thanks for your inputs. Incidentally the brake solution may be applied by another Facet flyer, Square Nozzle, who frequents this forum. I hope he posts a photo of his A-6 schemed Facet with panel lines, markings, etc.
Facets Forever- I love it!.

Art Thanks. I would also like to see the kit bashed A6, hope he posts pictures of it. Ever since I discovered the similarities of the Facet to the A6, I've wanted to bash it....especially since it is so easy to fly, but I just haven't had time. I'm an old scratch builder and it would be so easy to accomplish I think. All my buds (in jest) give me a hard time about my stock Facet because I fly it more than all the rest put together. Just so easy to fly, no pressure, easy to land, and simple......plus I can fly all weekend on 5 gal of diesel, or JetA. Hard to beat!!

I built this one for a friend in 2005. Powered by RAM 750. Covered in ultracote. Flys great. Still in service now as a occasional flyer. I wished the nose section was a little longer. More space, would help the cg and steering sensitivity

I got this first pic off of RCU years ago. I don't know who built it. The rest of the pics are of my Facet 2300 with original straight wing, then the swept wing and lastly with retracts. I lengthened the nose to allow the retract to retract forward.
The retract version was much slower than the original fixed gear version, but looked better in flight.
It's currently retired in the attic. Was going to try to do the A-6 conversion on it someday.

I just finished rebuilding my Facet 2300 with the P-120. and I also have the only Facet 1700RG. The size of the 1700 is between the 1200 and the 2300, swept wing with retracts. I have about 40 flights on the 1700rg and when the gear does come up, what a big difference in speed.

Yup, the plan form is very A6-ish, as well as Alpha Jet-ish. Had my re-design for 444 flights. A friends next to my Alpha.
Have thought of a new version with retracts .... but time is lacking.
