Fuji BT-24A?
I have searched everywhere and can not find any performance numbers on the Fuji BT-24A, the magneto equipped engine. I am considering it for a 60 size warbird and am wondering if it will work. Looking for numbers on a 15-16 inch prop. I have read that the engine is pretty heavy but most warbirds need nose weight anyway. The dimensions that I have seen looks like it will mostly fit in a round cowled airframe. I have a TF FW 190 D9 and a set of plans for a Japanese Zero. Looks like it should be a fairly good fit considering that a glow engine would also have to have some cutouts for muffler. Looking to get out of glow engines. Tired of the mess and the cost and lack of availability of the fuel. Electric is still too high for my budget for planes of this size. I like doing business with Tower and am inclined to give this one a try. Any advice or numbers out there anywhere?
Thanks

The October 07 issue of MAN magazine had a fairly through review on the EI version of this engine and generally there is very little if any difference in performance between a mag and a EI version.
The engine in mag configuration is reported as being fairly heavy for it's size while producing only moderate power. The test review shows the lighter EI engine spinning a 16x8 at 8,200 rpm, which in certain instances is more than 1,000 rpm below some of it's competetors.
While there have been favourable reports from some Fuji users, the brand does not enjoy much widespread popularity as there are several other similar sized magneto or electronic ignition powered engines that are very reliable, lighter and more powerful at very good prices, plus the Fuji brand is noted for it's extremely high cost of spares. HTH.

RE: Fuji BT-24A?
Hello;
I have a BT24A and gets only this result here;
Menz 16x8 : 7400 rpm and 4 lbs thrust.
Meaning I really dont have an engine.........
I wonder why I dont get more? If I increase or decrease H needle the rpm drops.

Don't know how you arrived at your thrust figure, but using Pe thrust calculator which is know to be quite accurate, and with sea level as datum, your prop and rpm equates to 10.18 lb of static thrust. Hope this makes you feel a bit better, plus that rpm based on the make prop you are using which is know to load engines a bit more than normal does not seem too bad to me.

RE: Fuji BT-24A?
karolh,
Yesterday and today I flew a Goldberg 1.20 size Monster Pitts with this engine. Flew the plane...that's all I can say. No vertical, No performance to speak of, easy to start though. Very touchy on the needles. I used a 17x8, and a 16x8 MAS. It did not like the 17x8 at all, the 16x8 was marginally okay. IMHO the engine would be ideal for a lazy, non-aerobatic plane like say a CUB. I do not plan on keeping this engine and will likely put it on the Marketplace or EBay. The engine is HEAVY! 4.15ounces RTF. That's a canoe anchor if I ever saw one! Hope this helps!

RE: Fuji BT-24A?
As I mentioned in an earlier post the Fugi is heavy and makes only moderate power when compared to other similar size units. The Goldberg is a very nice flying model and would most certaintly benefit from being fitted with a more powerful engine. My advice would be to sell the Fugi and get a stronger engine for your model so that you can really enjoy flying it.

RE: Fuji BT-24A?
karolh,
Yes, that's exactly what I am doing. I hope to get a Saito 1.5 once I sell or trade the Fuji. It's a good looking little engine but suffers from lack of power.
Happy Flying!
