Quadra 35 oh ya!
I'm building a large Fokker DVIII from plans. The plans were designed around a Quadra 35. What would be an acceptable substitute with todays gas engines? Keep in mind this is not a 3D plane and with todays materials and building techniques the overall weight may be down a bit etc.
I'm not sure how much power the old leader developed?

RE: Quadra 35 oh ya!
why not DA50 or CCG45(red chinese one) or evolution 45( horizon hobby)?
yes they good for 3D but will be excellent for scale!!!
with the right pitts muffler the sound will "scale" as well
with the DA you wil not be over powered!! use a bigger prop and a good pitts muffler...and when the time comes for more power it will be there...!
allways bare in mind the 10000 of hours that u spend to build the a scale model and you dont want to loose it for a cheap, unrelaible enegine, or servo or battery for the matter.
send some pictures

Go with the G-38 or G-45 if you can find one around. You'll need the weight of something with a magneto up front in any case so might as well get an engine that has one. The electronic ignition engines are lighter and you would have to add ballast to compensate. Both have more than eneough power for the plane. Call Ralph Cunningham at RC Ignitions. He likely has a couple laying around.

RE: Quadra 35 oh ya!
I was actually thinking about a DL 50 for exactly that, swing a larger scale prop etc.
I'll be using an all metal cowl from Glenn Torrance so I'm not sure weight will be an issue for balancing etc
hmmmmmmm.......

RE: Quadra 35 oh ya!
Given the marginal weight difference after you add a second battery pack etc I think the choice should be made on longevity and reliability. The price of the DL is sure attractive as well as its multiple uses. I thought everyone was going to tell me the 26 series gas engine would have been adequate and equal to the Quadra 35
Is it true the magneto type engines are much harder to start thus the invention of the springs etc? I don't want to buy a big a** starter!
I have only ran one gas engine, a Brison 3.2 and loved it!
