Belt CP/Align 430L Help
Hi all,
I'm doing a ground up build belt cp. I'm using an Align 430L 3550 motor. I got it mounted last night and what do you know - it rotates in the wrong direction!
Has anyone done a 430L upgrade to a belt cp? How do you reverse the rotation of the motor?
Also, what is the recommended pinion size for the stock Esky gear? I'm thinking of using the 13T.
Thanks in advance

RE: Belt CP/Align 430L Help
Hello mikea2 you can switch any two of the three leads coming out of the motor to the speed control and reverse the direction. I don't know for sure what everyone is running on the belt cps but, a 13 tooth pinion on that 3550 kv will be sufficient. If I knew the main gear size I could tell you roughly what the head speed would be. Post the main gear size and I will help you determine the head speed for your heli with a 13 tooth pinion. Gittle

Thanks Gittle. It doesn't matter what colors I swap? I don't want to fry anything.
I couldn't tell you what the size of the main gear is. It has more teeth than I am willing to count. I'll go with the 13T and see what happens.
Thanks

it doesn't matter which two you swap. I have the same motor in my belt cp and I'm currently using an 11t on it. I might move up to a 13t at some point but 11t is good enough for now.

If Druss is using an 11t on his and says it is good you may want to start with an 11t. The 13t may make the head speed considerably higher.

Yes, I thought about the head speed with the 13T. I wanted to fit it with a 10T like stock. Problem is, the only pinion I could get from the LHS that is a good fit is a 13T. If the head speed is too much I plan on adjusting that with the throttle curve on the xmitter (I'm using a dx6i). I'm also going to use the eflite 325mm blades that go with the b400 so that may mitigate the head speed as well.
BTW - this is my first ground up build. I appreciate all the advise.

Hi Druss,
On another thread you mentioned you were using Hitec servos. Are you using the servo horns that came with them? I'm using HS-65HB servos and the horns don't seem right.

Druss,
I guess what I'm trying to say is that when I connect the servo horn to the control arm on the airframe the linkage is not parallel with the airframe. The servo sticks out a little further than the stock esky servo. I'm just wondering if I should use a different servo horn (I'm using the one that looks like a cross), look for a different one, or just not sweat it.

I personally don't think it's a big deal unless you see some binding. You might be able to use a spacer to move the servo itself back into the frame but i don't know of any servo arms that are closer to the servo body.

I am running the 11T on my 430L(only for the Winter) and my calculations get 2848. on a 13T you would get 3366![X(] which for me would be too high. She would sound sick but would eat up the battery quicker. I get a little shorter than stock flight times with mine on an 11T. I like it in the Winter because it keeps everything a little warmer.

Heli Direct carries the 3 pinion set(11T,13T,15T) It quiets the Belt down a bit too.

I also think Hobby People may have a 10T for a 3.17 shaft. You get a little thin on the Brass down in that size though

Hi Druss,
How hot does your 430L get with the 11T pinion? Also, what size blades are you using?
I set mine up with a 13T pinion and Eflite 325 blades. After 3 minutes the battery and motor were really hot. Especially the motor - do not touch hot!!
Thanks
