RE: Tail Servo, what is a good choice?
As a matter of fact I just stripped another stock esky belt cp tail servo out tonight... these things are JUNK! My LHS only stocks futaba stuff pretty much. Will either of those work with the stock receiver?
Thanks.
Thanks.

doesn't matter for the tail servo, you can just reverse them so you can use anything you want. if you only have futaba available then any of the futaba ones I've listed will work, however.

Thank you Druss, I'm gonna write that list down and take it to the LHS and see what they got. I got servo gears coming for the stocker servos but i'm just getting sick of these stock esky servos stripping out. I'm not even hard on them.

RE: Tail Servo, what is a good choice?
Hate to hijack this thread but I just called my LHS and they only have JR S185, DS285; Spektrum ST75; Futaba S3113 & S3114 servos. They close in about 4 hours.. Can someone please tell which of those would be perfect to replace my tail servo.
Thank you.
Thank you.

that's all they have??? that really sucks man... I'd go for the 3114 as it's the fastest. I noticed those are all micro servos, they don't have any mini servos at all?

RE: Tail Servo, what is a good choice?
Yep, i live in an area that's barely lucky enough to have a LHS at all.. Plus it's a 45 min commute to it. They mostly are all into planes around there. That's probably why. I forgot to mention he has an ST75 servo.. I don't have any clue what brand that is. So the 3113, hah? I was hoping my spare gears would show up from JAG today but they didn't. And I really hate to sit without anything at all.
Thanks Druss
EDIT: I just called another hobby shop that's an hour away... they have the Futaba 3003 & 3004 & Hitec HS-81MG
I'm gonna be leaving soon. I was searching and many of the trex guys are using the hs-81 for the tail. I'm just not sure if it's ok
to use the Metal Gear version. I know they would last longer but the weight... is it ok to use the MG's?
Thanks Druss

RE: Tail Servo, what is a good choice?
Well I ended up not getting any of the ones I listed... That hs-81 was WAY to big. Instead I got a KO PROPO PDS-3014. It's a really nice servo. It's fast and pretty strong as far as torque-wise. Plus it has Metal gears. Weight is 11g. It's a perfect upgrade over the stock one. Just not as Cheap$ as the stocker.

RE: Tail Servo, what is a good choice?
I've been flying mine every night since I got that servo on Saturday. That KO PROPO servo I got is awesome. It's very fast! I can't imagine ever needing a different tail servo. Who knows. So rule of thumb is that if you LHS doesn't have a servo such as the ones that are brought up above, don't be afraid to go out on your own and try something they do have. Pretty much every servo that's listed above, was available by special order only.

RE: Tail Servo, what is a good choice?
availability depends on your local hobby shop, I have at least 3 hobby shops in town that would carry all of the ones I mentioned as stock. the 9650 is especially a very popular tail servo, i'm surprised they didn't have it.

RE: Tail Servo, what is a good choice?
Hi Druss- ya my LHS isn't very much into the sale of helicopters at all. But perhaps the 9650 is used for other purposes besides helo's. They only carry E-flite stuff for the CX2 (which i have) and now the new Blade 400.. They do have a TREX 450SA kit but not a single part for it. I'm impatient so I just got what they had and lucked out. Not saying the other servos listed above are bad, they just didn't have them.. I would have gladly bought a 9650 for if/when I move to a trex.
Regards.

RE: Tail Servo, what is a good choice?
I'm glad you were able to find something that worked for you. The 9650 was not originally designed as a heli only tail servo, i'm not sure what the original design was but you can tell because it works on 6v where most servos design for helicopter tails only work on 5.2v.
