Futaba S3010 servos
Just recently purchased Futabas S3010 servos because of the torque they provide. On the instructions I notice in big letters it says for NiCad use only. I was planning on using these servos with my 1400 NiMH battery packs. Why can't these be used with NiMH battery packs ? I would hate to have to buy a new battery pack to run these servos.
Thanks for any help on this

When you see the recommendation of using only NiCd with a servo, be advised that they can have very high current demands. NiMH batteries have a lesser capacity to deliver high current than NiCd, and under high current loads you'll get a voltage drop. The newer NiMH batteries can approach the performance of NiCd's, though; the safe bet is to use parallel packs. This halves the internal resistance of the system and makes deliverable current greater. You can also go to 6V.
I have 4 of the 3010's in my WACO, and I have a 2800 mAh NiMH pack at 4.8V. I haven't had any problems, but then most of my flying doesn't involve a lot of servo action that a 3-D plane might require. If you're going to be putting these in something you'll be "wringing out" with a lot of intense aerobatics, I'd recommend using a higher capacity battery or getting another pack like it and running them in parallel.

Hi!
Why Futaba recommends this is because some new commers might use ordinary batteries(alkaline), which should be avoided in all airplanes.
NiMH batteries will work just fine in all our radios.
