Default Does anyone use 3 bladed props for their 3D/Aerobatic planes?

I have a Saito 150 and will be putting it on a Seagull Edge 540 68" (as soon as the plane comes in). Since it will be overpowered, I was thinking that i could swing a 3-bladed prop for a more scale look. Any reason why I shouldn''t use a 3-bladed prop? I was going to try a 16x8 and a 14x9. Any one else using/used a 3-bladed prop on their 3D/Aerobatic planes?

I wouldn''t recommend 3-bladed props over a 2-blade if you want top performance. While you certainly can do 3-D with a 3-blade on your proposed set up, you will immediately notice the performance difference (worse with a 3-blade). I fly 3-blades at my home field due to noise restrictions (only on my big gassers), but when there are no restrictions I switch to a 2-blade - the full scale guys love it when my model "barks". No such thing as "over powered" by the way! Of course if scale appearance is your top priority, go for it.

Not to mention the additional cost of a good 3 bladed prop.

Tony Soprano Say''s

Forget about it....................................

On my Big Yak I run a 3 Blade because I had them custom made but a 2 Blade is the way to go.

Darn...ok, thanks guys! Can you recommend a 2 blade prop then for aerobatics and basic 3D for my setup?

Jinxx...

For the Saito 150 I always start with a APC 16x6. At lower elevation you may be able to run a 17x6. If I want to hover a lot, I use a 17x4W which works great. That''ll give you a starting place at least.

thanks

A two blade will pull harder on uplines and generally have "more power" but a three blade will be smoother. As usual, it comes down to preference...lol

FYI-Kyle Woshynis always flys a three blade Mejzlik...
