Considering a gas boat....
Hi all, I am "not" new to gas rc, I have 2 26cc gas rc cars that I love. I'm also an avid boater, and would love to have a gas RC boat. Do most of you build your own boats and buy plans? I dont see a whole lot of mention of "brands", although I see a few selling on Tower.
Do most ppl build or buy (RTR or KIT) these boats?
If buy, what is one of the more popular models, if build, what is a typical budget for materials (minus electronics & engine)?
What size/scale are you building with a 26CC engine?
Anything else a complete newbie should know?

RE: Considering a gas boat....
Welcome!...
First I would consider your budget, and what type of baoting your going to do...recreational, competition, etc.
What is your building skill?...Some of the boats can require alot of skill, and time...I am not questioning it, something to ask yourself.
Some good RTR's you can buy for under a $1000.00 while others can cost upwards of $10000.00 when building them up. Just like cars, or trucks the sky is the limit.
Also you may consider where your runnning, and what the average weather is like...is the water smooth or choppy....deep v's run great on smooth, while cats run good in chop, although some of it comes down to persoal preference.
Myself im a cat man.
Here are some sites to look at, some have rtr's some have hulls and hardware, some are just hardware:

Not really, I run my Expresscraft MTI in chop al the time, cut's right thru all the small stuff, just like our 36' ocean cat. I cut thru the chop, where as a v goes over it...lol in the air. Guess it depends on whom you talk with.

right now, I think I am more interested in building a boat from plans rather than purchasing a kit, but I am just starting my research. It would be fun to build someting from scratch, even if it took me several years. HOWEVER, that being said, I am definitly not into dumping 10K into a build, so if that's the type of funding we're talking, I may have to go the kit route.

RE: Considering a gas boat....
I built my 57 apache from the hull up for around $1300,
my aproximation of my build
250 - hull
450 - motor,clutch and mounts
500 - MH$ S6 drive with quick trim
and the other usual BS, hardware and such.
all in all I still have more invested in my RC than I do in my 14' jon boat. lol
which I think is about average for a gasser but please correct me if im wrong.
