Best pitts for DA-50
Hey all,
Been running my DA with side mount muffler and will now be putting it in a mustang so I need switch the muffler to a pitts style. Looking for any advice on which one seems to be the best as far as weight and performance go.
Thanks
Z

RE: Best pitts for DA-50
I just assembled a Wildhare 300 Extra with DA-50R. I bought a Bisson Pitts muffler and have been pleased with it. Easy installation and everything fits well. The only issue I had to deal with was how much to cut the cowl as that muffler really spreads out in area. I eventually had to cut off some of the pipes to get the cowl on. I did this very carefully in little increments. The end result is that the pipes now only extend about 1'' below the cowl but this is ok. Also, the Bisson comes with a smoke fitting already installed. I didn't use this feature so I removed it and plugged the hole with a small screw and it works fine.

In wraparound Pitts mufflers, I've had the Peacemaker (from J&A) in my QQ Yak as well as the Slimline in my WH Edge. Both perform fine and are well made. The Slimline has more cubic inch volume and as a result is a bit quieter. I purchased the J&A since it was more compact and I'd need less cutout in the QQ cowl to fit it. Bisson, JTec RC make their own as well. TroyBuilt models offers their own TBM mufflers which I'm guessing might be imported...don't know for sure. Bisson seem to be a little thinner/lighter and they are good people. Slimline are widely available. J'Tec will happily customize a muffler for your application if needed and are also great to work with. Some include a strap to support the end of the muffler that's between the engine and firewall. The strap is a good idea.

There's a company that makes a scale Mustang muffler for the DA-50.
I think they are called Kaleo. Exits are at the scale location...
