Jet Meet Sardinia!
I am sorry its a bit late posting these photos, but work has been a little hectic of late.
A few weeks ago my Host Gianni Saba and the Flying club of Sestu flying club of Sardinia flew me out for their annual meeting. I have been attending this meeting for the past 3 years and each year it gets a littl bigger.
The first year I attended there were only a handful of jets. This year the attendance had grown to dozens. With many guests attending from mainland Italy the meeting had a great feel to it. Lots of fun, food and flying in a truly laid back atmosphere. Once again the Sardinians were the most gracious hosts and made my few days really enjoyable. The flying even was marred by high winds on Sunday , but most people still got some flights in.
The highlight for me had to be watching the "jet Bambinos" Three under 14 year old jet pilots that flew A Boomerang Elan, a Euro fighter and a composite-arf Turboprop tucano. The Italian approach to encouraging the juniors is the best I have seen on my travels across jet meets around the world. One of these youngsters is the son of my Host. Young Ricky Saba! 9 years old!!! I have taught him to fly jets from the very start, and when I left him in september of 2007 we were ruining through landings on the buddy lead. Imagine my delight to see him at this event, start up, taxi out and fly the entire solo slot in-front of hundreds. It was a great and very controlled flight, which ended in a perfect landing. I felt prod, so I can only imagine what his dad was feeling. As a father myself I cant wait to share that moment with my kids.
The crowds loved Rickys flight, and received all the youngsters so well. So much so that between the three of them they won a special award and young Ricky was presented with the best of show award of a Jet Legend L-39 kit!!! God these Sardinians now how to host and event!
Anyway. I will post some photos here, and when i get time will drop the full set onto the gallery section of my site.
Regards Al

Hospitality we can do, as well as the food, surprised they did not all drift off after lunch for a 'siesta' - looks like a great event, might pencil that one in the diary for 2009!

Its the other way in Sardinia. They all disappear for lunch and then seem to re appear mid afternoon. The only person I know of that had to have a siesta was....... Me A late night in milan meant I needed some Beauty Z's at the field. Luckily part of the clubs great facilities was a double leather sofa in the hangar.
