Default thinking about building a car from scratch

Hi all! I am thinking about building a racing car from scratch. It's probably not a good idea because i dont have alot of money, and not much experience building rc cars. havent even built a kit yet. i currently own a traxxas stampede w/mm esc/vxl. I have a few plans already made. any support is appreciated.

here is a picture of my plans i made in paint

Gonna be a tough job would be a good challenge tho but like shadow said its better to have machine/design experience.
Honestly think you would be better off picking up a cheap roller from ebay and modding that, that way the chassis done and you can experiment with different parts of the car etc.
If you do stick with it defo keep us in the loop plenty of pics along the way always good to see thing designed and that

lol, that would save alot of time. i might do it with 1 battery/motor, but if i do 2 motors, i might use the e-maxx tranny too

I would piack up a cheap Tamiya kit off ebay 1st to see if you really want to build it and how hard it would be.

Hey there! First of all I think its awesome that your thinking about making your own car from scratch! I think the hobby needs more people like you and me. I am also a builder. Thats actually mainly what I do in this hobby is I make cars from scratch and conversion kits and stuff. Don't get discouraged by not having any exsperiance you have to start some where. Since you have a stampede I might suggest a smaller project to start with maybe make a custom chassis for your pede. But if you want to go a head and do this project, great! I know that I started with a major project as my first one. I can offer much help to you if you want it but first what scale are you shooting for? How big do you plan to make this? (estimate length and width)
Oh btw here is what I made as my first project with no machinging exsperience. Not the best but it can be done and now I am moving on to more complicated projects. I am actually still working on this project and it is turning into the second picture

Chris_RC - Do you have any links for one on ebay?

rebelsol - Nice car! I take it you gonna put revo suspension on it? Also, do you know if a dremel is good for cutting aluminum (a-arms, chassis, shock tower) or is there anything else thats not too expensive. It looks like you used lexan for you chassis? Im drooling over the new Proxxon mini-mill. looks awesome, but its about $350 and i just spent $280 on my stampede.

go [link=http://www.tamiyausa.com/index.php]HERE[/link] and go to on or off-road, then just browse the kits. If a kit says say $240, you can get them for around $140. So it might look expensive, but if you search the car on ebay it will be cheaper.

You might be better off cutting out your own chassis and using readily available suspension components. Don

i'm building my first scratch built rc too. im starting it off as a suspensionless drifter. it's suspensionless because the chassis is, as of now, just 3-4 copper tubes. i recamend starting off with 2wd then later converting to 4wd.

if you ever get completely frustrated and decide that there has got to be a better way, give me a shout and I'll hook you up with one of several rollers/chassis FREE if you pay the shipping. I'm pretty sure I got something you can use. The Stampede is a great truck if all you wanna do is wheelies. You have a great motor/esc setup for something else. hate to see it go to waste.

If you're talking about the main chassis- use .093 G-10. It's available from Team Cobra or Parma. Don
