Default Balsa Sheeting / silkspan control surfaces FW190

I'm getting ready to start a top flite FW190 and I have a few questions about finishing.
Does the balsa just need a sandable wood sealer before primer/paint is applied, or epoxy / fiberglass?
I'm thinkng of doing the control sufaces with silkspan and dope but I haven't used that in since I was a kid building little guillow's rubber flight models. Any help, ideas, reccomendations?

Also If anyone has bult this kit, any probs. or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
