spe ignition module grounding
placed this in the wrong section first.
bought an SPE 43 engine set it up as per the manual that came with it and when i tried to fire it up it just didnt want to start. Kicked a couple of times both clockwise and counter clockwise after priming. read around online and all the ignition module setups for the SPE 40 describe hooking up a ground to the engine but I don't have provisions for this wire anywhere on the ignition module for my 43cc. When trying to start it seems to want to kick once and a while usually backwards and give my fingers a good whack but not get up and running.
I thought about just adding a lead from negative battery but worried about frying something. The manual that came with the engine said nothing about this grounding but cant see how it really would ground without it.
anyone else running this engine or have any suggestions
thanks in advance.

RE: spe ignition module grounding
I don't know what ignition comes with the SPE but if it has a sheilded plug cap that locks onto the it does not need a ground wire, I thnk some of the earlier ignitions that came out of China had a ground wire (not the RCxel)
Most engines when new are hard to start untill you get a tank or two through them.
If it has a shielded plug cap, Remove the plug from the engine and install in to the plug cap turn on the ignition and rotate the prop to see if you get fire.

RE: spe ignition module grounding
thanks mine does have the shielded plug wire thats attached to the plug base. FYI it is a melody unit that comes with the SPE engines and the older version does have a separate wire to attached to the engine (saw a pic on ebay) surprised i missed looking into that grounding point. up and running this morning sounds great cant wait to bolt on my new carb after break in and see what she can do.
